I think it's a really good album (FWIW, Riot Act and Binaural are my two favorite PJ albums, lol!). And actually it's also one of their best sounding records. I think Era Vulgaris is better than their self-titled album. S/T is good, but IMO it is their more boring album. Era Vulgaris is way more interesting to my ears. Era Vulgaris might also beat songs for the deaf for me, only because, while I really love the songs on it, I really can't stand the radio bits. Anyway, if you like QOTSA, I don't think there is any album you should be avoiding - they're all super good.

My ranking would be:

... Like Clockwork
Lullabies to Paralyze
Rated R (But the reissued vinyl is SHIT)
Era Vulgaris
Songs For the Deaf (only ranked lower because of the radio crap - otherwise it would be 3rd)

I love the packaging of Era Vulgaris too, it comes in 10 inch format

I think it will be a while before Queens puts out new music and tours. Josh, Dean, and Troy will be touring with Iggy Pop this year.
I met Dean at the Dead Weather's album listening party at the end of August last year. He said that QOTSA was going back into rehearsals the next day (9/1) for their show in Rio and also the LA surprise gig before that. He also mentioned that QOTSA was going to start working on an album. However, I don't know how imminent that was, especially when Josh closed their 2014 Halloween gig in LA by saying "See you in a few years..."
They're one of my favorite bands and I'd love to see them again sooner rather than later. That surprise show at the Teragram absolutely ripped. It was far and away my favorite show of 2015 and will have to tide me over until they return.
In the mean time, hope I can score Post Pop Depression tix before I head to NYC.

I do still think they'll start working on an album this year no mater What the Iggy Pop schedule is ... meaning it would be out in 2017 probably.

Just ordered Lullabies to Paralyze and Them Crooked Vultures on vinyl. Never heard a song from either but really like Like cCockwork, Songs for Deaf and Rated R alot. Looks like S/T and Era Vulgaris are getting repressed soon.

S/T was already reissued in 2011. Pretty sure I got that for under $30 on Amazon a couple of years ago. Still available. And the original pressing of Era Vulgaris is still on Amazon for under $30. I grabbed one new in a record store last year, again for under $30. Maybe they're reissuing that one, but I don't see why they would bother yet....

I have not listened to Like Clockwork yet all the way through.... But it is my least favorite so far.
The gap between Era Vulgaris and Rated R is not much....Songs like Into The Hollow, Turnin on the Screw, Misfit Love, 3`s & 7`s, Suture, River in the Road are some of my favorite QOTSA songs, their other albums are just so strong that if it`s not perfect, it can`t be better.

Also the have an EP that`s amazing called "Stone Age Complication" The Bronze, Born to Hula are gems.

I can't believe I never gave this band a chance until last year. Would have loved to have seen them play at PJ20 but arrived in time each night just for PJ. These albums will be the soundtrack for all driving for this spring PJ tour.

Add Them Crooked Vultures to your soundtrack. Only 1 album but it's great. Homme, Grohl and John Paul Jones.
