Binaural 25th Anniversary

Man I love this album. 2nd favourite after Yield. Freshman in University, wore the CD out within months. First live PJ show was this tour, such great memories of trips to the record store to buy the 2000 boots. The record with the most nostalgia and personal meaning for me. I really Binaural gets some special treatment in 2 years for its 25th - demos and outtakes, alternate tracklisting, collection of the best live versions.0

Easily my favorite Pearl Jam album. Like a previous poster stated, this album came at a really amazing time in my youth. I absolutely loved "Yield", but remember wondering if sonically this would be where PJ would rest moving onward. I remember the day I was driving to school and Oklahoma City's main rock station 100.5 The Katt premiered "Nothing as it Seems"! I was sooo excited to hear the aural shift, the darkness of it and McCready's ripping guitar. It sent my fandom in to over drive in anticipation for the album. I've not had that experience with a PJ album since, but hold it very dear. Wonderful and happy times in a life so far gone now.0

Bought Binaural out there so I always associate it with that period of my life. Still remember my first listen. Also remember standing on some cliff somewhere in Cali listening to Insignificance a dozen times when I first heard it on the NAIS single.I will die of the hill of they messed up the track list on this one. They should have stuck with the original. And how was Sad left off? Top 20 song in the catalogue and would have been the best song on the album (next to grievance of course).
Being left off is really weird to me. Like the decision was based on something else besides how good the actual song is.Vedder has 6 songs on the album.Breaker

maybe light years when it was “Puzzles and Games” before got rearrangedSad would make it 7 for Ed or they would have to cut one.The very obvious answer to me would be to cut Soon forget and make it a B-side. It kinda has a B-side feel anyway. And although they’re both rare live songs, Sad has always worked better in the live environment. My new track listing would be:
Breakerfall
gods dice
Grievance
Insignificance
Evacuation

Would 7 ed songs be too many on the album instead of 6? Maybe soon forget made the record because Ed was super pissed at the time with the uber powerful and rich? Maybe Sad was too personal, so Ed didn’t want to put it on the record?
Who knows. What I do know is, Binaural rules.Post edited by foriginalsin on0 -

When they debuted “Grievance “ on Letterman, I felt new feelings. When the CD came out, and I listened to “of the Girl” while driving to the beach, I felt new feelings. This was a band I had loved and dissected since hearing Ten as an angsty 15 year old, and almost two decades later, their weird magic still held. This was probably their last great album, a classic and unmatched…
that original track list, though…0 -

Binaural was released 25 years ago today. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200.I miss igotid880

Usually they would upload an updated version of the audio on YouTube.I miss igotid880

Since they made a video for Future Days. I wonder if they'll make one for this? Or any of the other albums that didn't have one.

Happy Birthday Binaural. I've been guilty of neglecting this lp for years. But had it on during the week. Light years. Grievance. Parting ways and Sleight of hands are just great songs. Brilliant songs. Plus it sounds great.
