ELIZABETH, N.J. - New Jersey authorities have issued a murder warrant for a homeless hitchhiker who gained Internet and television celebrity after using a hatchet to attack a man who ran over a California utility worker.

Police said Thursday they're seeking Caleb Lawrence McGillvary in Sunday's beating death of Joseph Galfy Jr. at his home in Clark, N.J., 20 miles west of New York. McGillvary is considered armed and dangerous.

The 24-year-old McGillvary gamed fame online as "Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker" for his intervention in a Feb. 1 attack in Fresno, Calif.

McGillvary was riding with a man who drove into a utility worker. The Fresno Bee reported that McGillvary pulled a hatchet from his backpack and struck the driver in the head after he confronted the Pacific Gas & Electric worker.

    On his Facebook page, McGillvary's last post, dated Tuesday, asks "what would you do?" if you awoke in a stranger's house and found you'd been drugged and sexually assaulted. One commenter suggests hitting him with a hatchet — and McGillvary's final comment on the post says, "I like your idea."

    Kid was definitely dealing with some mental issues exacerbated by drugs and alcohol.
