Once the band retires/call it quits, what do you think will happen to the general value of PJ collectibles?

I imagine we all keep liking their music even if they stop touring some day.

I think the question is what happens to the value of collectibles as we all age out.  Sure there's some younger fans, but not at the quantities of people close to average age of pj fan.  I imagine as well get deeper into our 70s and 80s and start downsizing, that prices of collectibles will plummet.

Check the prices of Dead posters and memorabilia. Like real memorabilia.

The value of items will stabilize and not fluctuate with the release of new items.

Markets are volatile based on the fact that PJ still can and does release limited items at shows still. That's the collectibility aside from past limited items.

The "limited" vinyl at Target an similar items will carry little value.

Autographs will always retain value and increase pending the item signed and authenticity etc.

    Enjoy your collections!

TBH we can look to see what happens to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd as examples in the future.

A spike upward in the immediate short term then a long descent.

    Morbid but true.

I don't think any of those would be good comparisons, except maybe The Who. Those bands transcended generations much better than PJ did. I see kids what Beatles, Pink Floyd, Stones shirts fairly often. Most have never even heard of Pearl Jam.
Granted, its as much of a fad/fashion as anything, but they've at least heard of those bands.

Who hasn’t heard of Pearl Jam? You’re right about fashion trend but thats only because PJ doesn’t sell shirts of themselves at Target for $10 like all the bands above. My 6 year old has all of these shirts. Add Nirvana, Bob Marley to the list. If PJ was available there, more people would be wearing their shirts

As for collections, sold off 95% of my posters a few years ago, made a shitload of money to put a down payment on a house. Since then the house doubled in value (thanks Covid). That’s a win.

Haha yea, Real Estate is a slightly better investment than PJ merch.

Lol. But now you probably wish you had the posters to decorate the walls, whereas before you had posters but no walls to decorate.

I hang on to the stuff as reminders of good times. Honestly I feel like it all will not be worth much in a solid ten years.  Who (other than us) would want a poster with donkey kong on it that says pearl jam or a steelworker pouring a guitar. Dumb or kinda cool to 90% of the pop. Priceless to us.

As rock art may hold some value. Not 1000+ imo. Maybe 3 or 400.

I only collect records. Never got into the merch/ poster thing thankfully. I don't know if people will want Pearl Jam records in the future. I mean R.E.M ended 11 years ago and their records still sell okay, That's the closest comparison I can think of, both reissues and original LPs. I have mixed feelings about selling my records off in the next few years. I feel like it will free me from the collecting/ hoarding but lots of memories attached.

Interesting what’s happened since this thread started. PJ merch/posters are still selling but not at the clip or prices they were. There doesn’t seem to be as many flippers either. Used to be loads of stuff for shows on eBay right after merch opened. There’s still some but significantly less. Seems the market has slowed or corrected from what it was.

The values will continue to go down IMHO. While they are popular, they are not in the same league as the Beatles, The Who, Hendrix or the Dead in terms of memorabilia. While Pearl Jam does attract new fans, the core fanbase will not be buying as much merch as we approach our 60s. I can see certain merch getting hot for a short time and then losing value. I stopped buying merch many years ago and liquidated most of my collection about a year ago. Getting rid of all the "stuff" I have accumulated and inherited over the years, not just Pearl Jam merch.

All I know is that when viewfinders become cool again, I'll be sitting on a goldmine.

Any regrets on doing that? I have sold off some of it but still have posters of shows I attended. keep thinking I will get them rest of them framed and have floor to ceiling PJ posters all over my office. Although as time passes, I feel less likely that may happen.

No regrets at all. I sold off close to 40 posters going back to 96'. Some of them were framed but many sat in tubes doing nothing. Most of my vinyl as well. It is nice to have the closet back instead of being full of stuff I rarely looked at. I just want to enjoy the shows while I can and am no longer interested in the merch. As I get older I just want less stuff around the house, trying to slowly get rid of it all!
