just got hold of bootleg of this show thinking, 'can't wait!', i was dissapointed
what was the actual atmosphere like? because it sounds dead and the band sounds really sloppy not to mention ed and stone having a little 'tension', sounds like a night where rarely things DON'T go together
plus did i hear something wrong?, did daughter not have a tag on it?

notes: EVERYONE is on tonight. Ed flubs the lyrics to the second verse of 'Even Flow' AGAIN. Prior to 'Given to Fly,' Ed says they are going to play it "under protest." 'Thin Air' is on the setlist but as Stone gets ready to play it, he breaks a string, and we get 'Wishlist' instead, after which Ed refers to Stone as his "archnemesis." Later, when they come out for the first encore, Ed asks for lights and then he and Stone hug, after which someone throws a half full beer at Stone, prompting Ed to say "if anyone fucks with him I'll kick your fuckin ass!" When they came out for the second encore, Ed said something to the fact that they would only be playing rarities and said about 'Leatherman' that they had trouble learning it because they "couldn't even find it." 'Footsteps' featured the bluesy solo on harmonica, Ed sings the entire second half with his eyes intently closed. During 'Garden' Ed drops the second "I don't show/ I don't share" lines, and holds the last "stone" for what seems to be forever. Apparently only 'Fuckin' Up' and 'Ledbetter' are on the encore setlist; the rest of the songs were audience requests, chosen on the spot by the band!

The stone vs ed thing seemed in good faith,just banter!
The beer (stella) was unopened that was thrown at stone,ed went and fetched it opened it and took a large swig,kind of did a errr expression grabbed his bottle of wine and lofted it above his head to the crowd.
They seemed to play for ages.Was superb.

I guess this is a silly question but what's a Tag???
That said, it was a good show if a little unspectacular from so far away. I remember that most folk in the seats down each side of the hall were on their feet. The setlist was great, and like someone else said, they seemed to be on for ages, I think in reality they actually played for about 2 hours, 20 minutes.
I remember Even Flow being very good and Nothingman being a really nice moment in the show and Fuckin Up being the most rock moment of the night
My ex-wife was not impressed and actually managed to fall asleep during the encores. That's not why we broke up by the way.

Not one to name-drop, but, I saw them in Toronto later in the year, and met Jeff the following day in a shop down town - I mentioned that I'd seen them in M'cr, and he said that it was a good show. (OK, he probably says that to everyone he meets!!).

God, yeah! I got my ticket via a local independent record shop. It was a ticket/coach package. The shop went into liquidation about a week before the show! Fortunetly I had my ticket already, but the coach travel didn't go ahead (I still don't know why...). Anyho, I found out a guy I worked with was also going and he very kindly gave me a lift.
It was the greatest gig I've ever been too. Until Leeds last year, of course.
Love the boot, so many great moments.

Don't let your ears deceive you it was awesome. OK so it was the first time I had seen them and I had been waiting for a very long time but I don't think my experience was distorted by it being a dream come true. It has taken me a while to find this out which is a review my hubby wrote for all our unfortunate freinds who couldnt get tickets. We were in the seats right beside the stage too so we got the full force of enthusiasm from the band. I should say he was a Motorhead fan, so don't be too hard on his initial perceptions. He has wised up now. I hope it answers your question.

Pearl Jam have always confounded me in that I was not sure I believed their anti rock star stance. I had my suspicions that their image may have been composed of faux humility and conscience. A politically correct but contrived attitude to corner a particular demographic in the quest for album sales and self justification. No more so than in the person of Eddie Vedder, who in the brooding and tortured artist persona always seemed too much like a cliché. No one gets into the music industry without a healthy ego! Or do they?
I understand now, after last night. After one song I had no alternative but to set down my preconceived critical baggage and recognise I was completely wrong. I have never been to a show like this concert before in my life. I have seen some amazing bands and legendary performances over the years, but what I saw last night was completely different from anything I've ever seen before.
I saw a band so in touch with each other that there appeared to be a harmonic communion between them. They produced music that while it was precisely defined and artistically accomplished, was a fluid almost organic force that ran between each of them. And Edward V, brilliant as he is, was not only the singer but also the fan. All too often you will see a front man killing time when they're not singing during an instrumental only part of a song, because they're not centre stage. When Pearl Jam were at such moments in various songs Mr Vedder would be entranced by the performance of his band mates, hanging on the resonance of each note. Looking like one of the fans on the front row, transported to that place of emotional inspiration that only music can bring you to. There was no ego, no 'I'm the talent' attitude, this was a band greater than the sum of its parts and each one of them not only recognised it, but revelled in it.
Perhaps this is what accounts for the tangible truth of the performance. Unfettered by narcissistic compulsions, on stage Pearl Jam are completely their music, one with their art. Their audiences understand the band and what they are about, and I think I do now. No ones there for a light show, or the hit single, they’re there for the unity that makes this band what they are, that flows from the stage washing over the audience making everyone part of something special. 2 highlights were garden which remains the best song i heard live, the softer chorus sent shivers down my spine! also playing ledbetter with all the arena lights on at the end, and just mike left on the stage, was awesome!
the banter with ed and stone was all in good fun, like he said they were just like brothers.
before i went to that gig i hadnt 'got' binaural, didnt understand it, but listening to it again after the gig, it made so much more sense!
