My buddy was friends with a big time Bay Area sports photographer. The photographer passed away and my buddy is selling a ton of his photos on ebay. Anyone know who this is?

Doesn't look like either Bob Seeger or Bob Weir to me. I will have to think about it.

It could be Michael Stanley from Cleveland, but only about 50% positive on it.

Don’t think it’s Bob Weir. This photo was taken at Candlestick Park.

I'd bet 10 50 bucks that's The Snake- the most excellent Harvey Mandel! (The more I think about it, the higher the bet goes up, lol!)

And while you're mulling that over, here's a little cool late night Snake music for ya!

The look, the beard, the snake skin guitar strap, Candlestick/San Francisco (Harvey spent much of his time in SF and Southern Cal).  100 bucks says it Harvey.  That my final bet.

    LOL, Rob!

I'm old enough to have purchased what is probably the first album Harvey played on, Stand Back! Here Comes Charley Musselwhite's Southside Band  from 1967 (a great, great album.  Mandel was just 21 or 22 at the time.)  I saw Mandel with his own band in about '69 or '70 in a little club in Palo Alto called In Your Ear.  Got to sit right up front about 6 feet away.  Then again with a bigger band at Keystone San Francisco with the very young and gorgeous Pointer Sisters singing back up.  And a third time in the late 80's at The Cotati Club in Sonoma County and that show ripped!   We hollered for the band to come back for two encores and then screamed some more and Harvey came out with a big smile and threw a wave at us and said, "Ahhh, you twisted my arm.  Here's one more!"  Oh man, what a show!

    No kidding!  How cool.

Seeing The Snake come up here on Other Music, I flipped through my collection of Mandel LPs and decided to play one that I have long neglected.  Every time I come across this record on my shelves I remember liking it the least (putting it nicely) of Harvey's solo work.  So since it had been a long time, I gave it a spin.  After listening to it, I thought, "What the hell was I thinking?  This is a very cool album!"  Yeah, there are a couple of cuts that don't hold up so well and, no, it's not my favorite, but damn, there's some great stuff here!  I will not wait so long to spin this one again, that's for sure!

Doubtful.  Harvey was born in Detroit, Howie is Canadian.
