Never ceases to amaze me how much this record in whatever vinyl format sells for. $400 for the boxset, probably double for a '96 3LP, more depending on how low the number is and even bootlegs sell for $150.elvistheking44 said:I’m unloading my Mellon Collie box set if anyone is interested.

Probably because it's out of print. Once something is out print and the only way to get copies is from someone elses collection, the prices tend to go up. I think I read somewhere that the label wasn't over enthusiastic about repressing it... could be a while.FR181798 said:

I bought mine new. I think it was around $85. I remember debating if I wanted to spend that much on it.mickeyrat said:Zod said:

I remember seeing one at my record store the first time I went in after Covid started. The problem with popular things is, as soon as they go out of print, the prices start going up.I think I paid $70ish Canadian for mine when I bought it whenever it was first issued.0 -
I think there was a pressing in 2012 that one had all kinds of issues and they repressed it again in 2014 that one sounds great. Not sure how long it was in print but there is a big difference in the pressings and they look almost identicalZod said:mickeyrat said:Zod said:

you don’t want the 2012 for sure at the going rate.Post edited by Cropduster-80 on0 -
This sounds like something Billy would say, because if the label doesn't keep it in print 100% of the time, they aren't enthusiastic about it.Zod said:

I'm sure when (they probably already know) the label sees what they are going for on the secondary, they'll fit it into a block they have at a plant. But I'm sure they have coordinate the manufacturing of the box as well and even printing plants have back ups.
Wouldn't be surprised if they try to time it with a new record or the Machina reissue when interest in the band is at its modern peak.

2014 pressing. that was the last pressing of it. No other represses that discogs shows.

There was an inventory dump about a year and a half ago, maybe two years ago. I'm guessing they shipped all that was remaining. Or there was a small repress and nothing changed from the 2014 second pressing with the new cut so no need for a new discogs listing.0

ok, looking at r/vinylreleases, it looks like it was last summer.0

Would love to own this on vinyl, but already have the 5-6 disc set, so that's good enough for me!www.cluthelee.com0

I think you are right. Mine is a 2014, and I got it in 2020 for around $85 - so I don't think it was out of print yet when I bought it.mickeyrat said:Zod said:mickeyrat said:Zod said:

I'm pretty sure I have the 2012 pressing as I was pretty stoked when it got the reissue. Sounds good enough to my years.. now i'm curious about the 2014 repressing.. lol.

There is inner groove distortion on 2012. Apparently it was significant enough to silently release an updated version in 2014 (according to Discogs)Zod said:I'm pretty sure I have the 2012 pressing as I was pretty stoked when it got the reissue. 2014 has more dead wax so you can visually tell on the records themselves. The outer cardboard packaging (not the box) has an FBI warning I don’t believe is on the 2012 version. If you don’t hear the distortion (not always easy to tell on a SP album anyway), then no big deal

Boy was that 2012 cut one of the worst cuts I've ever heard. My setup is pretty good and not picking up IGD, but that was hands down the worst record I ever owned. Really happy with the 2014 cut.0

Zero was the most IGD positive track. To Forgive and Galapagos had some.

Got my viper room silver vinyl in the mail today. Survived the trip much better than live in Japan (even though it was packaged the same way).

It's been a while since I listened to it. Zero was the track people were complaining about the most. People also complained about the Aeroplane Flies High set sound quality and its still fetching some high prices. They sneaked out the recut 2014 MCIS but the problem with ordering the 2014 was there was no way of distinguising it when you ordered it from anywhere, I'm sure the packaging was identical and so it was hard to tell if it was old or new stock. You had to order it and open it. It was repressed again before the pandemic hit but was done by a different plant, I'm sure the most recent one was pressed at Furnace. It was easily available one day then the next it was gone everywhere and prices went up againTim Simmons said:Boy was that 2012 cut one of the worst cuts I've ever heard. Despite initially having what looked like a recycled tracking number, my Japan vinyl has started to track properly. Left London this morning so should be here this week.0

I have to admit I don't really notice sound issues on a lot of records. My system and my ears aren't good enough. There's been a few times I've only heard the issues after someone has pointed it out on reddit or something. A few times I've noticed if it is really muffled or something but it's quite rare for me.Zod said:I'm pretty sure I have the 2012 pressing as I was pretty stoked when it got the reissue.
