I never make a guess before the 4th try. Pick 3 words that have all different letters to start. Even if you think you know what the word is, there’s no point in guessing early.
Once you have 15 letters (3 words) picked there’s almost always at least 1 word that is obvious at this point. Solve that word on your 4th guess. That will usually flip 1 or 2 yellows into a green on another word, making that one easier to solve. If the last 2 words aren't obvious by now (sometimes they are and you can finish in 7, sometimes they aren’t) there’s usually only about 8 or 9 gray letters left. If you have to, make a guess you know is wrong to eliminate 2 or 3 of those and/or turn some yellow to green. At this point you will have 3 guesses left with 2 words, usually at least 4 letters and a whole bunch of gray you know are wrong.
I was losing a lot when I first started because I would try to solve a word too early. Think I knew it but turned out to be 1 letter off. That’s a waste of a guess because it doesn’t help with any of the other words.
