  • I've been to 8 shows since Astoria this year...and, I'm still smiling from this set list! Marseille was purely amazing...thanks, guys!
p.s. Ed's dance moves were a riot, too!
  • I laughed when they started to play Small Town and Ed thought they had just played it! :D LOL Made me laugh

I thought it was Stone who was playing the chords to Red Mosquito again (previous song) instead of Small Town and Ed making fun of Stone's mistake.

Anyway, I was totally expecting Bugs to close the show after all we've seen. I was a fucking hell of a 10-hour drive to Marseille, but I can't say I'm regretting it. What a setlist! :)

And I thought the crowd was very poor. I was like in 5th row, Mike's side and I was basically the only one cheering for Fatal, Off he goes, Red Mosquito, Down, ... I enjoyed it a lot. But it seems like most of the crowd didn't. And Eddie letting the crowd singing along to Even Flow. Sorry, but I didn't hear a thing.

And Marseille is the ugliest city I've ever seen.

Yeah I agree somewhat with the ugly city comment, especially after walking 45min to get a taxi afterwards through some very scary areas, also yeah the crowd was not very lively (well definately not like it was at leeds!). but it was a great concert with an amazing set list and the crowd didn't want to leave i can't believe how long both encores were.
  • Hey everyone....
I'm still smiling and revelling in the joy that was Saturday night.
So glad I decided not to bother with sleeping at all, was awesome hanging out with everyone in that dodgy bar. PJ fans are the coolest!! Hope we all stay in touch.
    What a gig huh?
One of the best weekend of my life!!!

  • Marseille was, in my view, definitely one of the best shows of the year so far!

The Marseille show now ranks a very close second to my front row at Melbourne Park in 2003. I mean please - Fatal, Dirty Frank and SATAN'S BED -get in!! I was also dying to hear Leash and they pulled that out as well!

Very chilled out 10C arrangements - everyone got their tickets, lined up and got in with enough time to buy your t-shirt/poster, go to the loo and get something to eat before the rest of the GA people were let in - excellent organisation.

The venue was a lot smaller than everyone thought and most 10C people got a really good spot.

The Long Road was very emotional for me and so I did what all good fans do when their band brings out a beauty for an opener - I cried!! Then into the barrage that was Why Go, DTE, Severed Hand, Corduroy and Whipping - awesome. As people can see from the set list it was a real Vitalogy night with 5 songs from the album being played. I almost completely lost it when they started Satan's Bed - one of my all time favourites and one that they managed to bugger up a bit when they last had a go at it. On Saturday night it was flawless and I was floating!!!

And just when I thought it couldn't get any better - they start the first encore with Fatal and then move on in to Off He Goes!!

Big claps from all the band to the crowd for their participation in Black - I hope it sounds as good on the bootleg as it did there - gave me the chills.

As you would expect I was almost completely delirious by this stage and so when they came back for the second encore with Last Exit and Leash it was clear this show was heading for the all time greats.

I saw a number of people completely flip out when the boys started Dirty Frank - "Where's Mike McCready? My God he's been ate!". Hell yes!!

I have to say that I really enjoyed the boys ending with Fuckin' Up - it topped off this show as something different to other shows that I have seen and heard and backed up the status of the pretty rare setlist.

A shout out to the French locals we met at the show (all of about 17 years old - man I am soooo old!) and also to the Canadians from Quebec who had a nice Canadian flat with "RITFW" on it that Ed acknowledged and motioned that they would play that at the next show (which they did!) - tidy work.

Thanks also to the Marseille security who put in the best performance I have ever seen at a gig - professional, friendly and helpful - money well spent by the band.

    Review in one word: Superb!

Gotta say you were obviously the wrong side of the crowd. I was Stone's side and the crowd were amazing, very getting into it, singing along.

  • Sid and Blake were really cool guys! :D
Not sure if I met you though. Did you go to the bar afterwards where they went?
I think that's Marchello (sp?), the guy who lives in maidstone. Didn't ask anyone their board names so cannot be sure!

Caz, I'm still laughing at my joke at the end of the night, it was good (for me at least).

Shame I'm bad at arguments ;)

Was good to see you again, seeya in Verona!
  • oh yeah, and the concert was great and stuff.

everyone seemed pretty decent, even the french!

if anyone who was hanging out with us at the dodgy bar opposite the new hotel select after the show has the list of our names and email addresses still, please get in touch by private message/email.

be good to see the group photos, and stay in touch somewhat.

anyways, here's one of my photos from the gig: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/fantomasbook1/CIMG1011small.jpg

  • They were brilliant. Was 3 or 4 rows back on the left hand side of the centre barrier and it was brilliant. Loved the way they broke into 'Elderly Woman Behind the Red Mosquito' after they finished Red Mosquito. Hilarious!!! Show's that they're human after all. Loved the little fuckups all over the place, at the start of black, at the start of leash!! Hahaha!!! Brilliant.
If Pearl Jam was a beer, they'd probably be the best beer in the world!!
  • this was my first show...!!!

    it was awesome!!!!

the setlist, the band, the fans in the front rows!!!!!

Being on Mike's side is never the wrong side. ;)

But you might be right. Anyway, it didn't took away any of the pleasure I had hearing that setlist. :)

  • Yop yop !
I’m a newbie.. Not an hardcore fan , but I just love pearl jam music.

This is my first post to say : what a wonderful show !!!!

I was at the dome at 8 pm precisely ( after a looooong time road through the Canebière works)

My morning jacket were already on stage : pretty good band, but singer voice is a little too yelling.

I was on the left of the GA but had a pretty good view… I love to be in the heart of arena for concerts , but physically ( poor little girl, cut like a prawn) I just can’t satisfied it for that kind of gig,. So I was behind, but energetic like a flea. My black & red shoes couldn’t stay in place !

What a show !! damn ! first time I saw them and sure not last.

This year was my year, floyd members were on road and I thought I couldn’t be so satisfied with a show as I was for dave one’s. But really, it’s another world that I saw Saturday, but what a world ! Different , but really really great !

Just a very little deception point, few days ago , I saw that they played interstellar overdrive for some shows, I expected it.. but no… doesn’t matter, I got my Piper in my head.

    To finish , 3 words : I want more !

A-D, waiting for a next pearl jam experience.

thanks again for the seat swap on the plane home. you two make a really wonderful couple, and you both helped make the Saturday more fun so cheers.

Yes!! I remember you now. Yes I am Caz. :) It was nice to meet you and your girlfriend. Such a good evening, both during the gig and going to the bar afterwards :D
