I've been growing my vinyl collection again after a few years of a break. I decided that I don't need every album by some of the bigger names I like expect for a few exemptions (Pearl Jam, and several Beatles albums) I decided to just get one album by most of the bands or artists I listen too which has been harder than I thought. I've seen myself put almost too much thought into my purchases but it makes it more fun and meaningful once I do pull the trigger and buy something.
Just wonder what everyone's thoughts are on this, what would some of your choices be if you were doing the same thing.
My recent selections have been:
- Talking Heads (Speaking in Tongues)
- RHCP (By the Way)
- Taylor Swift (Evermore)
- Waterboys (This is the Sea)
- Beastie Boys (Paul's Boutique)

I think you need to consider one studio album and one live album (if it’s a great live band)
not sure I could narrow it down to one only in that circumstance
PJ is an obvious example. If you like DMB that’s another. That is two albums minimum and I wouldn’t see any way around that
If I was doing it I’d start with:
 Radiohead:ok computer (probably)
DMB: before these crowded streets & Live 25
 Jack White: Blunderbuss
 Beastie Boys: Paul’s Boutique
Tool: LateralusPost edited by Cropduster-80 on0

I’m trying to do something similar:
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf (purchased)
Spiderbait - Ivy and the Big Apples (purchased)
 want to add:
 Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
 Beastie Boys - Paul’s Boutique
 The Beatles - White Album
 Kiss - Destroyer
 Neil Young - Mirrorball
The War on Drugs - maybe Lost in the Dream? Or A Deeper Understanding? You Am I - Hourly Daily or HiFi Way?
Grinspoon - Guide to Better Living
 Paul Simon - Graceland
the only PJ studio album I need is LB.Post edited by BrainofBGA onMelbourne #1 '98

Generally, if it's a band I listen to, it's a band I love and am going to want more than one album. But if I were to limit myself to one album, these are the artists I would absolutely want to include. I don't mean to get carried away, but I can't imagine not having at lest one vinyl LP by each of these:Albert Ayler
 The Beach Boys
 The Beatles
 The Bongos
 David Bowie
 Sandy Bull
 Carlton Melton
 Johnny Cash
 Ornette Coleman
 Larry Coryell
 Miles Davis
 Dead Moon
 Dinosaur Jr
 The Doors
 The Dream Syndicate
 Slim Dunlap
 Bob Dylan
 Brian Eno
 The Feelies
 Fleetwood Mac
 Robert Fripp
 Vince Guaraldi
 Juliana Hatfield
 Merle Haggard
 Jimi Hendrix
 Japan
 Waylon Jennings
 Jethro Tull
 Joy Division
 Leo Kotke
 Nils Lofgren
 John Lydon
 Taj Mahal
 Harvey Mandel
 John Mayall
 Steve Miller
 Minutemen
 Mission of Burma
 Thelonious Monk
 Willie Nelson
 New York Dolls
 Pearl Jam
 The Psychedelic Furs
 Rain Parade
 R.E.M.
 The Replacements
 Lou Reed
 The Rolling Stones
 Ramones
 Pharoah Sanders
 Sun Ra
 Talking Heads
 Cecil Taylor
 Ernest Tubb
 Leslie West
 Paul Westerberg
 The Who
Neil Young and Crazy Horse"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

WOD has to be Deeper Understanding. But you need the song Under the Pressure so maybe an exception should be made , a 7”BrainofBGA said:I’m trying to do something similar:

Such a hard choice. I actually listened to Deeper Understanding before Lost in a Dream but I’m starting to warm to Lost in a Dream as my preferred record. However it’s like choosing a favourite child.pledgeagrievance said:
