Boston Calling dragging their feet.
I follow festivals pretty closely and Boston Calling isn’t announcing third headliner or line up. Other larger festivals like Hang Out and Welcome to Rockville are basically same week and have announced entire line ups. Although these festivals are equal in size, they aren’t geographically competing for ticket sales with BC. But Levitate which is a smaller festival and down the road from Boston is a month later and announcing full line up on Tuesday. Levitate gets pretty big acts and will compete with BC in regards to ticket sales. Levitate would never get PJ but still sells out. My point is I think BC is waiting on PJ to announce tour as they have no Boston or New England date. The consensus is The Strokes are the third headliner because they aren’t opening for RHCP in Boston because they are on other east coast dates but they play Mexico 5/21 and then Europe 6/3. Logistically they could squeeze Boston in but I am holding out for PJ. If I’m right we can see PJ, Foo Fighters and Rage. Guess time will tell.

Fingers crossed as I bought early bird tickets hoping RHCP would play, but PJ is even better as we all know!0

I would rather Boston get the Fenway treatment again over this festival but that would be a hell of trio for headliners.
I saw Tool there in 2017 (think that was the year). I found the volume to be turned way down compared to other festivals that I have been to but overall it is has a solid set up for a fest.

Wish this was still held in Government Center. Haven't been back since they moved out to Allston.___________________________________________

BC doesn't usually announce till January anyway. They have been holding on to Rage and Foos for 2 years, only announced that to satisfy those who have held tix for so long. This weekend we rock Portland0

Rage just cancelled BC (along with rescheduling first half of their tour) so now two openers needed. One being equivalent to Rage to appease the people who already bought tickets. I think The Strokes (consensus on third headliner) is a downgrade from RHCP with Frusciante who also cancelled so I’m hoping for big name tomorrow at 10 a.m. PJ might be leery on arenas but have done two festivals?

I think Tool headlining again would be more likely. Tight window though. They finish in Europe May 24.dlymnfld said:Rage just cancelled BC (along with rescheduling first half of their tour) so now two openers needed. Tool playing Boston in February so they are out. People on inforoo are saying Metallica, Stevie Nicks and NIN but that could just be wishful thinking with me saying PJ. But people are fired up as BC is isn’t offering refunds so they gotta be getting someone comparable?

not offering refunds is messed up considering a band that was advertised is no longer playing AND that fact boston now has a vaccine mandate...though i'm not sure the effects outdoor festivals.dlymnfld said:Tool playing Boston in February so they are out. Haha, and I'll be there. I don't know how I forgot that! Metallica woukd be sick too. Would love to see PJ slide in obviously, just have my doubts. 100% agree though, would need to be a a big draw band.0 -
Nice. I’m seeing Tool in Omaha in March. I’ve been following their set list. They did Culling Voices sitting down with Danny on guitar at one show. They are also playing Right in Two and HWAP at every show, both of which they haven’t played in almost ten years. They seem to be killing it on the west coast. Can’t wait!lmckenney24 said:

Yeah, gonna be awesome. Hoping for RIT at one of my shows. They've taking it out of rotation once or twice already.dlymnfld said:

I would also much prefer Fenway for PJ over Boston Calling.
Like @PJNB I did BC for Tool only in 2017, and it was a big pain in the ass getting in & out of there for one band / set.
Sucks about Rage..0 -

I bought tix for Boston Calling 2019, in large part because Janelle Monae and Black Star were both on bill (and was also excited about a few other bands). But Janelle Monae was the main difference between a "Yes" and a "Maybe" for me that year.dlymnfld said:Tool playing Boston in February so they are out. Then both she and Black Star cancelled; Boston Calling said it was "scheduling conflicts" but word on the festival business circuit was Boston Calling made an oral commitment about how they'd get paid, and both bands said from start they were good with that contract as long as the actual contract they signed had those terms. In end BC didn't produce the contract they'd orally committed to so technically JM and BS were not under contract at all and so they said "You didn't keep your end of the bargain so we're out".
No idea if that's exactly what happened or not, but I do know that BC didn't have a signed contract to hold over the artists' heads so it does seem at least partly true.
That's a long way of saying... I will not be surprised at all if they don't give refunds, even if the replacement headliner is not really comparable to Rage. Because, after this long an absence over all, who is really "comparable" in how much people would go out of their way to see Rage? Seems like only another really popular band that hasn't fully toured in 10+ yrs could be "comparable"0 -
Looks like it’s Metallica. 👎🏻Springfield 4/6/94, Boston 4/6/94, Hartford 10/2/96, New York 9/11/98, Hartford 9/13/98, Mansfield 8/30/00, Boston 9/28/04, Reading 10/1/04, Quebec City 9/20/05, Boston 5/24/06, Hartford 5/13/06, New York 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08 Philadelphia 10/31/09, Hartford 10/15/10,
