Again. I understand the prices are off putting. But I’ve literally watched thousands of you walk away with $1000 of STUFF.
Yeah but they were flipping that stuff.
Sounds like they’re no better than $250 tickets then.
Errr once you buy it you can do what you want with it. If you can find a sucker to pay you $70 for a $35 shirt, that cost $3.50 to make, then oh well.

Wild how expensive the tix are for the Ed solo shows. It's almost comical. Who the hell has an extra $500 laying around for a pair of concert tix? My sweet lord.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Join your local DSA or Socialist Alternative chapter. A new world is possible if we work towards it.

But if the band charges $70 for shirts then they’re the assholes? :i_dunno:

    Those are platinum prices.

    $250 ain't so bad
  • While I acknowledge that Ed's ticket prices seem a bit high, and that 1995 Ed might wince a bit at what his older self has become, don't blame capitalism. Supply equals demand, and they wouldn't charge that much if people wouldn't pay that much, which they clearly are.

In the socialist paradise, where all tickets to all shows are $50 (or $10 or $5 or whatever the Commissars determine is "reasonable"), you'll just inevitably find a secondary black market for actual in-demand performers like Ed where tix get bid up to their actual value by those who can afford them and want to pay (which, amazingly, will be the same wise Commissars who run everything! Funny how socialism works in practice...)

So blame Eddie's supposed g, r, e, e, d all you want, but don't blame the best - okay, least worst, but still best - economic system there is.

Oh, yeah. Ed turned out to be such a terrible guy ...because tickets to his solo show are expensive?

I just love the assumption here that Ed is somehow pocketing all this money from high ticket prices and stashing it in the bank. It might also be that he likes to pay his road crew well. It might also be he pays his band well. It might also be that he's donating a shit ton (more than he already does) of money to charity.

Nah, none of that. Clearly Ed is just a greedy capitalist hell bent on making a handful of Pearl Jam fans online whine more than they already do because it's "too expensive" to see him perform.

They want him to live in a trailer while they stream his music for free. Then complain that he didn't write the music they want him to write.

Price matching what the “market” will pay is Capitalism. Ed’s tickets are priced less than market value, so Capitalism lite?

If capitalism was involved, there would be $600 seats, VIP $1200, Friend of the band package $2500 and $5000 meet and greet. Get a grip people.

The part that bugs me a little is myself.  Had these even all gone to fan club & verified fan, I would of only gotten 1 out of 2 nights in seattle.  Because I haven't spent much in the past 2 years, and work is going pretty good, I had the means to go the 2nd one.  So capitalism kind of worked out for me, whereas socialism might of failed me..... crazy stuff.

There an awful lot of straw man arguments being made here.  Something to keep in mind: if an individual expresses an opinion, unless you can point to that individual expressing a contrary opinion, it is not a valid argument to claim that the person is a hypocrite because unidentified "people" have expressed contrary opinions.

Also, for the record, to the one poster who included Russia among the socialist/Communist countries that people aren't flocking to enter: Russia hasn't been Communist for thirty years.  It is a capitalist country.  It's a kleptocratic authoritarian oligarchy and a petrostate, but it's capitalist.

Prices matching market means actually a chance at getting a ticket
Prices less than market means less people getting selected for tickets
Really really low prices that people expect means there is no chance for a ticket when you are competing with literally everyone

basically no one wants to go right? That’s my interpretation

the unintended consequences of pricing a show really low would not make them happy when they wouldn’t be going anyway.

You can't have fewer people at a show based on ticket price when the number of seats is static. 10c gives people a better shot than just selling it through the monopoly that is ticketmaster. If it was straight ticketmaster sale at market price, 10c members would have less of a chance of getting tickets.

The lower the price the more people request seats for the show absolutely

the number of seats are static, but the number of buyers for those seats varies based on how expensive they are.

if tickets were 50 bucks the ticket requests probably quadruple or more.  You statistically have a way worse shot in securing seats the lower the price goes based on how many people you are now competing with

my point was at 50 bucks you aren’t getting tickets anyway so what’s the point? At 250 you have a better shot. At 1k you get tickets no problem.  It’s an abstract argument to want prices so low that the demand would prevent you from getting that ticket. Ticket price complaints never seem to factor in how much harder actually getting a ticket becomes.

people couldn’t even get seats at 200 or even for the 500 platinum seats or whatever they got sold for. Imagine what happens when they all get sold at 50 dollars.  Good luck
