I don't really know what to make of all these trades except I'm hardly convinced the franchise has improved their situation. Anyone see the Sabres' Athletic writer absolutely shredding of Ristolainen? That has the potential of being an all-time worst trade for the franchise.

And getting rid of Ghost - at least when Bobby Clarke got rid of Brad McCrimmon for nothing he didn't trade away draft picks too. This seems like a 70s Eagles situation when Dick Vermeil started and they had no 1st 2nd or 3rd round picks for 3 years or something. Somehow he still got them to a Super Bowl, as the favorite! So maybe it will all work out.  :i_dunno:

It wasn't working despite the talent, as it was...so I can see making changes.  Some of them are head scratchers...and I did read that Athletic article.  Not pretty!
The love he receives is the love that is saved

Ristolainen is an interesting case.  He can come out and look like an absolute beast and stud... but then become a giant liability for a long stretch.

The Sabres did depend on him to do too much.  They plugged him in for a lot of minutes, and the depended on him to provide like 95% of their physical play.  Its really hard to make evaluations of Sabres players with how bad its been, and how many years of completely meaningless games Ristolainen has endured there.  With that said, has like 8 years of meaningless games made Ristolainen into a challenge to motivate?

He also is a UFA after this season.  So if its one year, then he peaces out, the trade looks pretty bad too.  I think its tough to sign now because I dont think you really know what youre getting until you see him play for a real team.  If he starts looking like a stud, he might be more likely to want to hit the open market.

Crazy story coming out about Flyers.  Vigneault, Fletcher and training staff could be in some serious trouble.  Not good

Accused of giving Nolan Patrick and possibly other players non prescribed medications.  If proven true someone is going to take a big fall.     It probably happens in most pro teams locker rooms but not a good look

Robin Lehrer has balls, finally someone is speaking up.  Why are people surprised the Flyers are involved.  The Lindros family was none too happy with the Flyers medical team.

Is it even the same medical team as 20-25 years ago?

I think its pretty clear he is having some sort of public manic episode and needs help before he goes off the rails too far.  He is the Ritchie Incognito of the NHL.

wow, yeah that's pretty crazy.  Season starts in a week. Just hoping the Flyers do better than they did last year and Carter Hart rebounds from a not so good year.

Vigneault doesn't bother pulling goalie with a power play, team in the offensive zone, down 2, until the last 10 seconds, 4 minutes left. Do they even want to get points?

so another coach gets fired while an average team and a captain who hasn't won shit stays around. at what point does the franchise realize the talent level is just average so expecting more than average results doesn't make any sense?   Not one of their players is in the top 25% at their position in the league. how do they have high expectations with such average talent?

So full disclosure - not much of a hockey fan, but of course unabashedly fucking love Philadelphia and its sportz teamzzz. This team sucks right, and looking back it are like worse than more in disarray than the Phillies or Sixers right? Flyers fans, and I'm not talking Philly sports fans - I'm talking the ones that are first and foremost Flyers fans - deserve a better team and need to boycott or something. Like they are more on the carousel of terribleness than any other team in this city. One playoff series win in a decade right? I never understood a team that hasn't won a championship in nearly 40 years get so much respect.

Yeah I had been buying partial season tixx for a couple years but I bailed. Still pissed about the ridiculous Kate Smith stuff too. Of course that opinion is apparently unwelcome in many places.

Yeah that thing, which was apparently equivalent to commanding the Confederate Army or something.

Yeah, seemed overblown. Not sure if it was deserving of removing the statue, but other than that I didn't care either way as I feel the whole God Bless America thing got tired and overplayed haha.

It's their 6th coach in 7 years now and this guy is interim so most likely will be 7 in 7 years. It's crazy. they just keep firing coaches but keep the same core on the team.   they have this attitude of just make the playoffs and anything can happen so they are ok with mediocrity as long as they get in the playoffs. well that doesn't work, especially when they have been in the same division as two of the all time greats in Ovechkin and Crosby.  They've also handicapped themselves with some long contracts for good, not great players. They have Kevin freaking Hayes for 6 more years including this one.  They have to get Giroux to waive his no trade clause and ship him out at the deadline. If not you can't sign him after this year unless he wants to take a massive pay cut.  They also continue to draft 'grinders' and tough guys over speed and skill. They passed on Cole Caulfield because he was too small and the guy is one of the top prospects in hockey.  They need more skill players and less grinders and old grizzled veterans.   Frustrating to be a fan over the last decade or so. Ever since they fucked up the Lindros era.

I remember the incredibly gritty 86-87 team almost took down the Oilers and the day we landed Lindros and now I'm about halfway through my life expectancy and this franchise is completely moribund and there are 32 teams and there is a distinct possibility they will never win a Stanley Cup in my entire lifetime. At one point this team had the 2nd highest regular season winning percentage in the league. When they went to the 97 Finals that 10-year gap was the longest in team history. It's so damn depressing. Goodbye cruel world.

Like I get the point of just getting into the playoffs and roll the dice, but like the arguments and issues made above seem to always be the issue. The GM, the coach, the contracts. As soon as it seems promising again it seems like they put themselves right back into the very same hole they just dug out of. Seemed like the only thing that sorta saved them pre-salary cap was Snyder coming in and waving his wand of power - which ironically, fucked things up at the same time but nonetheless that kind of power pre-cap was able to work in the short-term.

Just seems like since the cap was implemented they've not been able to make any sound decisions on an organizational level that does anything well in laying out a solid blueprint.

Exactly. Hextall had a plan but they got inpatient with his plan to develop the young talent so they fired him because they wanted to win now.  It's a cycle they have been in since the Lindros era.  one step up and two steps back.

i remember listening to the '87 finals on the radio since we didn't have cable/Prism at the time. It was a good great series. I was disappointed but remember the next day i went to school proudly wearing my flyers jersey

The most beloved Philly team not to win the title.  Without their best scorer and several other players hurt they took one of the greatest teams ever to a game 7.  Hextall the greatest Championship performance other the Nick Foles in Philly history.  That Oilers team was insanely good.
