It is a tough question.  You have era-adjusted, Honus Wagner was great, but if you transplanted him to the year 2005, with those slabs of leather they called gloves back then (sharing with the other SS)...  I dunno... also, the position changed.  Prior to 1990, with few exceptions (Ripken), it was a purely defensive position, and any offense was just a bonus.

The best defensive shortstop I ever saw was probably a tie between Ozzie and Vizquel

If you are skewing more toward offensive (and power) numbers, you go more toward the A-Rod and Jeter.  Id definitely give A-Rod, vintage Seattle and Texas a nod over Jeter overall.

Lindor and Correa are pretty great.

You also might consider Ernie Banks and Robin Yount
A-rod had better range than all of the players you mentioned but Smith and Vizquel.  Those are the best defensive players I've ever seen.  Arod was no slouch either. Dude could play the position.  Then he played 3rd at an elite level.

For hitting Arod is second to only Honus but like you said, he did it in a different era.

I enjoy talking about these things.

My favorite, Barry Larkin, was way better than Richie boy but also not on the category of best ever.
The love he receives is the love that is saved

Rollins and Tex would get my HOF votes…..with Bonds, of course.

Is Buster the only guy to win CBPOY TWICE?

I don't think Rollins will get enough votes to be eligible next year. Teixeira has good numbers but will probably not get the 15%? to stay on. He's borderline though. Maybe he'll get the votes that would have gone to A-Rod

  • Wander will be on a team of mediocrity for years…. Or they trade him to a contender for a bunch of prospects.
  • For my votes for BBHOF

    Bonds
    Clemens
    Sosa
Vizquel.  He should be in for his defense alone since they let Smith in.
    Arod
    Ramirez

Manny, Vizquel and Sosa get shit on.  Sosa was a 30/30 guy before he was a HR hitter.  Vizquel I mentioned already.  Manny was a beast and he doesn’t even get a mention anymore.

It used to be if you hit certain numbers you got in.  There were a lot of writers that didn’t mind the long balls in 1996-2008…

Vizquel has no chance due to the recent allegations

I didn't even know about that.

If you can have murderers and wife beaters in the HOF then some very poor choice in hazing should be allowed too.

He should have been in before that incident anyways...
  • Scherzer to the mets?  3 year deal?

    Early contender favorite now.
