    Instagram (keeping up with celebrities/trendsetters)

no twitter or facebook at all. they make fun of facebook.

they are apparently only changing the name of the company to Meta, but not the Facebook app itself. which is.....odd.
Common practice for a company which is become stagnant. The fact is, FB has become “old people” social media and their growth is slowing. They have taken a beating in the court of public opinion over the misinformation they allow to be shared as “news” on the platform.

When investor confidence begins to wane, and stock prices began to slide while you aren’t showing growth, rebranding is one of the tools often used to create some “buzz”.   Meta is new and fresh, unlike FB (and it’s users).  I am sure they have some other plans to remain relevant under the new corporate name.

Google did the same thing in 2015, rebranding to Alphabet. Happens a lot tbh
Seems to me the younger crowd (warning: only old people use stupid terms like the younger crowd) are more apt to use Instagram.  If I'm not mistaken, the latest trend in popular social media platforms among the younger crowd in order of popularity is:
    1. Instagram
    2. Twitter
    3. Facebook

    Does that sound right?

    TikTok, Snapchat?
I don't even know. I work with some guys in their early twenties and they seem to use instagram a lot. I never see them on facebook.

I've heard of those two but am not familiar with them.  It seems a little odd to me to have so many of the social media platforms but I guess it's like any fad- each generation wants their own distinct calling card so to speak. But it also seems like each generation only last a few years now!

I stopped perusing the next thing when Snapchat came around.  I understand that there will always be a "next thing" and I am comfortable enough to let the youth of today ride that wave.

When I realized that chasing rare beer releases was dumb I didn't want to follow the leader anymore.

Well they publicly announced it and for them to go back on that will have some serious fall out from users.

they've made a variety of promises over the years. I struggle to recall one they've kept...

and how do we verify? they have data farms all of the country.

When the FCC or govt comes knocking again?

I'm sure they will collect datat on their other platforms still as FB is most likely not the age demographic they are looking for?

  • I heard the unveiling of "Metaverse" yesterday.

They talked having virtual Mall's where you can buy things to spruce up your Avatar.  Go to different worlds.  People will actually spend money for their virtual appearances.

I knew I had read/heard about this before.  Where was it?  Then it hit me.

    Ready Player One.

If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, please do.  This is what your future holds.

That is much different then the virtual reality they are offering Brian, much different.

Basically they are promoting the fact that you don't have to be who you are online...

Thankfully, all my FB friends are real people and not some alternate virtual reality version of them.  Right?

"hey yo fat girl are you ticklish"

Someone posted a pic of the lead singer of digital Underground and we went back and forth w lyrics.  Well this one got me banned for a day...

The time before that I got a warning for saying "Crazy Europeans" I fought that one and was denied.  That got listed as Hate speech.  It was about how Euros go crazy at their sporting events...

It's time for a new platform.  This one is fo sho broken...
