I'll admit it...I'm relatively a new Pearl Jam fan, continuing to sort out my favorites and such. I just turned 18, and I'm at a point in my life where everything seems hard. Music, in particular Pearl Jam, is one of the few things that can keep a smile on my face.

I've been a fan since 1992, but went astray in 2000 because I wasn't very impressed with 'Binaural'. Now I realize that after writing the band off, they released one of the most amazing albums in 2002, and I didn't even consider purchasing it because I thought it'd be more of the same. I could not have been so wrong. In the last couple of years I've been getting back into them, and really notice the improvement of their playing... the 2003 shows sound better than then 2000 official boots, and now the 2005/2006 shows are trumping some of them. There's all kinds of surprises behind the masks.

I remember being 18 and buying 'Yield' when it came out. Man, I loved the ever-loving shit out of "Leatherman". I remember how difficult life was at that age and know how music can be a remedy for some of life's trials and tribulations. I thank Paul Westerberg, Chan Marshall, David Lowery, Mary Timony, Stephin Merritt, Lou Reed, Kurt Cobain, Beck, Sam Phillips, Sonic Youth, Faith No More, Primus, Van Morrisson, and a host of other artists for writing songs that got me up, got me off, or got me out of a place I didn't want to be in. Remedy in song, it still helps.

Guys, please understand that all of the work you are putting into this is being felt. When I first discovered this I almost cried as I didn't think such a thing existed. Such a great documented life of one of the great live bands ever. I love you all so much for this. I actually feel guilty not having anything at all to contribute other than my undying gratitude.

Ditto. There are naysayers, complainers, the belligerent requesters, and windbags like me polluting this thread, but everyone is grateful for the wonderful aural orgy that's been organized here. I original set out in search of the holiest show: the ONE concert that contained my four favorite Pearl Jam songs:
    "Sometimes"
    "Oceans"
"State of Love and Trust" &
    "Immortality"

Like I said, it was just one show in existence, being 10-28-1996 (Night #1 at Wembley in London, England). The sound quality is negligible (B+/B), but the setlist is extraordinary... and since the band will probably never play "Oceans" and "Sometimes" in the same set since they're both occasional openers, it's a keeper)

But then I found the version of 9-29-1996 Randall's Island (Night #2) that was far superior to the version I had (which was a weaker audience recording, missing "Who You Are", and about half the size). Encoded at 192, and being one the best sounding floating shows I've listened to yet, I don't see any reason for uploading my version, which is inferior. I highly recommend the link uploaded previously (it should be up on the first page).

Which brings me to a set of questions:

    1) I may go a few days before I listen to one of the shows I've downloaded. If I discover a problem with the show, it's not always obvious which link was the source. Is there any way we can create an editable post early on in this thread indicating problems some of the shows have? With more and more links going up all the time, I'd like to think we can better this machine by reporting errors, missing tracks, or even stating outright if the show is m4a, mp3, or whatever format the user is uploading it as. Some of the users have done this. I also like having Sendspace and Megaupload since I can download two shows simultaneously in about 20 minutes... but mirroring all the shows is extreme, since Sendspace expires (according to earlier posts in this thread).

    2) If there are two different versions of the same show, I think we should keep both links up, but report the differences between the uploads, etc. I don't mind having multiples of pre-millenium shows, especially since the quality differs on them all. In some cases, it is like experiencing the show from another spot in the venue in the 1995/1996 shows. That's a point of interest for me.

3a) I understand the why we shouldn't upload Vault shows, boots still available from Basecamp, and shows still available through retail outlets... (Benaroya Hall, Easy Street, etc.). But is there a statute of limitations on the shows currently for sale? After all, there are still the handfull of the 2003 tour shows that are available (either they're still in print, or there are quite a few backorders as retailers such as amazon and eBay Stores are still selling the shows), yet they can be accessed through this thread. What's the average statute?

3b) Regarding the Statute of Limitations, the Academy 12-31-92 show is no longer available for download at this time. Is there any way we could secure permission to upload it now it's no longer listed, or will it return? I'd sooner pay $10.74 to download the show than pay upwards of $45 for the show as sellers are currently doing on eBay. People know what they're selling; so 2003 bootlegs are being sold on that auction website for prices typically ranging from $40-$120, but the retail shows (5-3-03, 7-11-03, MSG Nights 1 & 2, etc.) are available for an affordable $15 range. The Mansfield boot is well worth that.

4a) Someone brought up the possibility of another disc in the 'Green Habit' fan anthology. There's nothing preventing people who purchase the official bootlegs from creating their own compilations, but trading available show content is off-limits, we can assume. So I imagine it's not permissable to include (for example) a compilation featuring 2 songs from 2005 shows and one track from a 2006 show, even if the clips were sources cited date & venue (I noted that whoever compiled the 'GH' discs DID CITE the sources of all their tracks, which is a nice touch)... I want to create a single-disc sampler of songs and their evolution (much the way 'Green Habit' must do, since it's mostly chronological) for myself and a couple of friends.

4b) Continuing from the mindtrack from above, I've purchased a dozen shows from the Basecamp Bootleg provider. Now I'm not rich, I can't afford to buy up everything, but there's no way to sample shows before you buy them..., or purchase songs one at a time. The best indicator for me, or anyone interested in purchasing another shows is to simply read fanview posts on them or inquire about them... but it still remains a leap of faith. Quality will vary from stage to stage, regardless. Is there anywhere on the web (affiliated with Pearljam.com) that offers previews? It'd be swell to listen to even medium-quality clips of songs just to get a idea what the night was like in general before taking the plunge.

Also, I was just wondering if anyone had the Storytellers taping of this year in its entirety. Thanks so much for everything.

I think someone brought this up before. Pretty decent set for the 4th of July airing. Are you inquiring on audio or video? There's a difference...

I was looking for an audio version. But hey, it's good to know people went through the same things I went through at my age.

I am looking for a version of DAUGHTER/WAR a la Showbox. I do not want to download a whole bootleg- just this one song. In an effort not to be a total mooch I uploaded the Daughter/Esta Bien from Mexico City from December 9, 2005.

i recently read (don't remember the source though, sorry) that the avalon '91 show didn't actually ever happen. pj cancelled a bunch of their dates in the northeast in '91 i guess. they did play all their opening slots on the peppers tour but their own headlining club dates i guess were cancelled a lot, i forget why. sorry this isn't more complete but i think it was after the philly show on that tour most of them didn't happen

set: Once, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Deep, Sympathy for the Devil snippet/Love the People improv, Black, Alive, Porch
notes: Not even the second song into the set, fans from the lawn rush the barrier and take over the amphitheater, likely due to the downpour that starts when PJ takes the stage. People are attempting to mudslide on the lawn (or wet grass). After 'Even Flow,' Ed says, "Fuck all those big cities." He talks about wanting people to be safe: "Look out for your neighbor. You can have the responsibility." Ed makes a reference that they didn't get enough attention at home as kids and then they play 'Black.' Toward the end of the set, a tornado touches down a few miles away and all the stage lights go out, but the amps didn't. Ed says, "There goes the lights ... there goes the lights" and the band goes into an immediate extended jam. A snippet of 'Sympathy For the Devil' is played after 'Deep.' 'Alive' is awesome, with an extended ending with a cool "hey, hey" jam. After 'Alive,' Ed notes that "now you know what it's like to live in Seattle ... It's an amazing day. It's gonna take a lot out of you. Take the day off tomorrow. You need some sleep."
Note: There is a tape circulating as this show but it is actually an FM broadcast of the 6/6/92 FM broadcast.
"hear my name, take a good look, this could be the day."
