Counting Crows Flying Demos 1991

Years back I picked up the expanded August record which has this amazing demo of "Omaha". Yesterday it showed up on a random playlist I was listening to and I got to thinking, I wonder if all their demos for that record have that grittier sound. An internet deep dive later I found the 'Flying Demos'. Wow! Now, 3-4 of these tracks are cleaned up and presented on the expanded edition, but there are a bunch I've never heard demos of. The "Round Here" demo has some serious "Where The Streets Have No Name" vibes to it. I'm about half-way through and just love the track sequence presented here. Thought I'd share for anyone who is a fan of the band. Nice write up about it too, apparently this was a disc the band had at their early shows before they did the record.

Sounds great considering it’s age and source. Headed to the last half of this today during my run. The demo of Mr.Jones is really good! Also, the bassist and drummer are criminally underrated. They are so well represented in this collection. Also love how Adam’s vocals are nearly there in these demos. I’ve listened to August so many times I could hear the spots that were unfinished lyrically as well. Also love how well the keys are repped on these recordings.

The orange Download Now button is the one to click. Sometimes you need to click it 2-3 times because it opens ads.

I’ll try again. the orange got me something.dmg, I think. If I then tried to open that, I got a “blank” flash player?

If anyone wants the extra tracks and live in Paris 92’ that came with my expanded edition, let me know. Well, wait, I’ll just post a link here for you guys. Many of the Flying Demos songs are on it all cleaned up and shiny sounding, including a couple songs not on the Flying Demos. The Paris show is amazing. Vintage Counting Crows!

  • I have a disc of demos from 1992, quality is not quite as good and it includes some of the same songs as Flying Demos but it also has some songs not on that disc, A Mona Lisa for instance. Anyone know anything about this? Flying Demos was given away at early gigs wasn't it?

The link I posted has an explanation about it. Was mentioned that this set was available at their early shows. Still working on that upload guys. Will try to get it posted here this weekend.

Just a straight forward rock show. Things got a little weird for me in their live shows in later years. Too much lyrical meandering for me, which is why their live August and Everything After record from a few years back is a tough listen.

This has like a 12 minute version of Round Here on it if memory serves. One of the first songs I downloaded from the iTunes Store back in 2005. Not listened to the rest of it.

Recently obtained a Nugs subscription and discovered a treasure trove of live stuff from the early 90s to shows in 2018. Wow!!!!

I think so too! I read an article about his writing process for this EP being different than before.
