2003 - The Peak of Pearl Jam?

I've been listening to a LOT of bootlegs lately and I keep going back to 2003.  Something about this tour stands above the rest for me.  Ed's voice was as good as it gets.  The band was on fire.  Riot Act is a highly underrated gem.  Put me in a time capsule and I'm going back to '03!

I think I prefer the 2000 tour as far as the band/overall....but 2003 has some amazing concerts, as well.
As far as jumping in the time machine, I am going back to see them again during the Vs. Tour.
The energy was off the charts.

2000 and 2003 are right there.  I think they sounded better in 2003 for some reason.  '98 also.  Basically the '98-'03 run for me was the pinnacle with '03 topping it.  For energy though, hard to argue your point on the Vs. Tour.  If I had to pick between the crazy energy of the early days vs. the catalog they built by '03, I have to go back to '03.  Maybe one show from each.

Will do!  Thank you.  I keep stumbling upon gems I haven't listened to yet.  San Sabastian is now up next!

03 they were aggressive, angry, and took chances...each show had a sense of the unknown to it. That started to drift away over the next several years

03 shows were incredible and im actually listening to the boots now. I’m up to Cleveland.
But being there, the crowds were a little disengaged. Definitely a different feel to the shows. Maybe it was them coming off Binaural and Riot Act being received as weak at the time (certainly not by me). Tough to say if it’s their peak though. Touring wise? I don’t know, 2006 tour has some great shows as well as the classic 98, 2000 tours.

They were at their collective best in two periods, 1993 - 1996 and 2000 - 2006.

Damn.  1998 left out.  Very interesting.  I thought 1998 was a great year (not to take away from the others).  '03 still for the win.

95-98 is my go to time period when i throw on a bootleg.  Nothing can top that IMO.

2003 was excellent tho.  I like the setlists a little less that year but man Ed’s voice was amazing.  2000 was good but the sound of the official bootlegs annoys me.  I have to look past the mixing.

I thought the Backspacer tours were really good too.

Matt was learning the catalog.  It just wasn't nearly as good.  There were very good shows, but it was not as good as other years.  Just my opinion.  But I am right.

Matt said that’s the exact aspect that Ed loved about the 98 tour tho.  It brought a different energy to the songs and affected their playing.  The intensity and the unknown.  I guess it got them out of their comfort level on a lot of the songs and Ed loved it

Ed, and all the band has said a lot of shit over the years.  A running list of all their interviews by album and tour regularly contradicts itself.

2003 was peak for Vedders voice.  It started to change after that.

Hell there are 2013 shows where his voice is on point but not like 2003.
