Thanks for the tips.  Pursuing several.  Also came to my senses and realized a Twitter campaign is not my strong suit.

Did you ever submit a complaint to your state’s department/agency that issues and enforces contractor licensing? Not sure how things are handled where you live, but where I am that is generally a first call for resolution. The threat of having a license pulled, and enforceable fines that can lead to a lien being placed on the contract usually fixed things quickly. My unit works hand in hand with the licensing and enforcement unit in my state.

BBB doesn’t do shit. They have no enforcement power. Waste of time.

Also, propose the option of suing the company, possibly in small claims court. I had a contractor try to jerk me a around a few years ago. Wrote a letter, had an attorney friend that specializes in contract law review and co-sign it, included supporting documentation, and mailed it them via certified mail. Basically laid out all the laws they had violated, including trespassing on my property, and invited them to settle things in small claims court. The owner of the company reached out shortly after receiving the letter and settled.

Great tips!  Thank you.  I need to look into the state licensing angle.  I am having difficulty finding an attorney willing to battle with me...apparently this is all unsexy work.  Totally agree on BBB being a sham.

Have you contacted your homeowners/flood insurance for assistance?

Yes, they were helpful but didn’t initiate ServPro, so they are limited in what they can do.  My adjuster did try to reason with franchise owner, but to no avail.

Check your state’s AG website. They may have a “consumer complaint” process and form for disputes below a certain dollar threshold. Good luck. I took on ticketbastard for Global Citizen in Central Park and got a refund but I filed complaints in CA, NY, IL and my home state and it was IL that got me a refund. Still,  time and 4 stamps and a phone call or two, plus an online submittal, and it was worth it.

Thanks!  I submitted my complaint to the Indiana Attorney General.  We’ll see where that goes.
