My wife and i flew out from Seattle for the shows last month, And we were blown away!!!!
But we want to get an idea of where those 2 shows ranked compared to all their past shows in the Boston area.
If anyone has been to all or most of them, can you give me some perspective of what we witnessed.

Energy-wise, Boston I was definitely one of the best shows I've seen period. They were both better than the VFC shows in 04. 00 was solid and the 03 "experiment" was pretty unique to itself.

    My list of Boston shows:

    Boston II 98
    Boston I & II 00
    Boston I II & III 03
    Boston I & 2 04
    Boston I & 2 06

00 were my least favorites, not much energy from that tour...show I from 03 was great...VFC was ok, and I preferred Boston I to Boston II of this year...so there you have it, I think Boston I of this year was my favorite of all Boston shows...

I just wish I saw them back in 94 at the Garden...that might have been one of their greatest in town here...that and the Orpheum...

The Boston shows are always nuts! We just love Pearl Jam and then have loved us back. But I will say that the last 2 shows were down right the best shows I have seen yet. This tour has been the best yet. Now if I could get myself out your way to see a show I could compare them too!

I was at the Orpheum. That was my first show and it was pretty awesome!

Both Boston 06 shows were the best 2 PJ shows in Boston that I personally have seen. Definitely much better than the VFC tour in 2004. The crowd energy was like nothing I've seen before. Absolutely amazing.
    2004: Boston II

2006: Hartford, Boston I, Boston II

2008: Hartford, Mansfield I, Mansfield II

The 7.11.03 experiment was the best concert I have ever been to in my 25 years of going to shows. I have averaged 4 or 5 a year and have seen all the top rock bands in various venues.

I personally thought the Boston VFC shows were kind of week. Boston-I this year was one of the best Boston shows they have ever done. The 7.11 gig was unique, special and by virtue of the curcumstances will be hard to beat.

However you expericed some of the best shows this time around. History will treat both the May 06 TD Banknorth Garden shows very well.

Boston 3, 03 cannot be topped, for me at least. But you almost had to be at the other two shows to get the full effect. And the acoustic pre-set doesn't hurt either :)

9-16-98, also at the Tweeter Center, was also quite a gem....one of the better shows of the Yield tour. A great setlist and a great crowd (except for the quarter thrower).

I'd put both 06 shows right up there with these two. The crowds were amazing, so much better then the VFC FleetCenter crowds.

I just listened to all the boots of the shows I've been to (Great Woods '00: 2; Great Woods '03: 1, 2,3; Camden '03: 2; MSG '03: 1; FleetCenter '04: 1,2; Hartford '06; FleetCenter '06: 1,2) at the gym the last couple weeks, and I'd say these last two shows rank right up near the top. The crowds were great. Hard to rank, but if I had to I'd say something like this:

    1. Great Woods '03: 2 (Love this show. Lowlight, In Hiding, the crowd on the last three songs was phenomenal.)
    2. Great Woods '03: 3 (The preset was cool. And you can't beat nearly 4 hours or whatever it was)
    3. FleetCenter '06: 1 (Just a great show. The corwd energy was great. And Ed referenced Larry Bird)
    4. FleetCenter '04: 2 (If only because they played The Seeker)
    5. Great Woods '03: 1 (Oceans was cool, loved Bushleaguer.)
    6. FleetCenter '06: 1 (Up until they brought out the Dutchbag Who Traded Nomah, it was higher)
    7. Great Woods '00: 2 (Gets points for being the first. Plus, anything with Release is great. And Footsteps.)
    8. Hartford '06 (Good but short set. Everything sounds great though. Loved hearing the new material for the first time. Too many tools in the crowd.)
    9. Camden '03: 2 (Fun show. Good times. Fun to wander around Camden, NJ after the show in the middle of a thunder storm, too)
    10. MSG '03: 1 (Should be higher, but I pretty much blacked out somewhere before Ben Harper came out. Bad move)
    11. FleetCenter '04: 1 (Good show, but just doesn't stand out much over the others. Seemed a little short)

I sometimes forget how spoiled I am.

Boston 2 '98 was my first PJ show, and still my favorite. Boston 2 this year came close though.

In Boston and Mansfield, I've seen:
    Garden 4/10/04
    Garden 4/11/94
    Orpheum 4/12/94
    Great Woods 9/15/98
    Great Woods 9/16/98
    Tweeter 8/29/00
    Tweeter 8/30/00
    Tweeter 7/2/03
    Tweeter 7/3/03
    Tweeter 7/11/03
    Fleet 9/28/04
    Fleet 9/29/04
    TDGarden 5/24/06
    TDGarden 5/25/06

If pushed to rank the top 3, it'd be:

    1. Orpheum 4/12/94
    2. Tweeter 7/11/03
    3. TDGarden 5/25/06

Can't compare to all Boston shows.. we usually only catch 1 show per tour (with the exception of VFC tour.. man did we ache after that double header).

Boston 1 2006 was the most amazing crowd my wife and I have witnessed (Boston 1 1994 not far behind). We were frankly a bit nervous about how the crowd might be after we were a tad let down by the Albany crowd (in our area at least).. as usual, Boston didn't disapoint however.

VFC #2 was an underrated crowd. I think many fans were upset the crowd didn't go more nuts when they broke out Alone or I've Got a Feeling.. but our section went ballistic.

Boston 1 2003 was very special for me because it was the first show my wife went to and they opened with Oceans!

Lastly.. my first show can't compare simply for 2 reasons.. the first, it was Rhode Island and not Boston (1 hour away)... second because there were maybe 100 people for the openeing of the set. To me however, the 100 of us were pretty loud :)
    1991 - Warwick RI
    1994 - Boston Garden 1
    2003 - Mansfield 1
    2004 - Boston 1 & 2
    2006 - Albany, Boston 1, Dublin Ireland
    2008 - Mansfield 1 & 2, EV Boston 1

I've been to a majority of Boston shows since 98'-

I agree with everyone else's posts- Boston really loves PJ and vice versa

...compared to the other cities I have been to (Albany, Hartford, E. Rutherford, Quebec City) -

When Boston and Pearl Jam get together just that certain 'something'...whatever you may call 'it'- magic? chemistry? energy? passion? atmosphere? I dunno.

Ed is also very talkative in Boston, compared to other places.

I would say that Boston 3, '03- was by far the best.

the Boston 2 boot (5/25/06) is about as close to a near-perfect performance of each song as you will hear...

Hard to tell really. I have lots of memories from all of them. Great seats for 9/16/98, the amazing 3 night run in 03, and I think the 2nd night this year ranks up there with all of them.

I was at all three shows of the '03 tour and both shows of this tour, and ranking them is pretty frickin' hard, but if you pressed me I'd say:

    1. 2003 - Great Woods III
    2. 2006 - Garden I
    3. 2006 - Garden II
    4. 2003 - Great Woods II
    5. 2003 - Great Woods I

The great thing about that July 11, 2003, show was it didn't come right after the first two shows, which were July 2nd and 3rd. We knew all about the "experiment" and had a week to analyze the previous set lists and figure out what they would do... then they come out and play an acoustic set, keep going WAY past the tweeter curfew, and by the time they played Ledbetter no one complained that it was a repeat from night 2.

It's funny, everyone who sees the setlists is going to think Boston II of '06 blew away Boston I, but there was definitely something special going on during that first show.
*Does not include encore of Garden and Leash.

I think Boston 2 2004 was a better setlist but the energy in night one may have been even better. So its really close. Ive only been to 3 boston shows but heres my list

    1. Boston 2 2006
    1B- Boston 1 2006
    2. Boston 2 2004

I have seen every show in boston area since 98, as far as crowd goes night 1 of 06 was by far the best crowd of the bunch, it's not even close, listen to the boot, how many times does ed mention the crowd , I may even go out on a limb and say this was the best crowd they ever played to in the continental USA.

As far as quality of the setlist, my personal fave was night 2 in 98. Though they are all quite good, I would have chosen night 3 in 2003 , but sleater kinney butchered free world and fortunate son. Acoustic set was the best I have ever heard them sound live, parting ways , all or none and long road are the best versions I have ever heard...

Not from Boston, but I love the city. Boston gets better set lists for sure, but nothing beats an indoor philly crowd, at the spectrum, wachovia, or even the borgata. But for some reason, they always play a greatest hits show for Philly.

The shows I have been too:
    1. Boston 3 2003 (the experiment)

I had my best seats of the tour at D.C. for the worst show I saw. The crowd was LAME, and the setlist was boring.
