not as good as you probably think.Loujoe said:
Story please...sure it's a good one.HughFreakingDillon said:big pete? maybe that's the dude that kicked me off the tarmac in winnipeg in 2011.
2011 canadian tour. the husband of one of my wife's co workers worked at the winnipeg airport in the area where private planes landed. he told me he knew when PJ were arriving from Ontario. 3am on a friday morning. he told me when to be there and said he could get me on the tarmac, and to bring anything i wanted signed.
i'm there. the plane lands. the band haven't deboarded yet. buddy tells me where to stand as he directs the plane where to go. some massive dude comes off the plane first. starts shouting "who the fuck is that?" at my buddy. buddy tells him. massive dude says "get him the fuck out of here".
I walk back to my car, head hung low. I was so stoked. I was the only person there. not like a throng of people. maybe the band had slept on the flight and didn't feel like talking to anyone. i get that. but i was crushed.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Oh man. Sad ^^^. I guess his job is to protect the band. That stinks.0

Worth the try though... and a good story at least.

yeah, for sure. i don't begrudge him or the band. in hindsight, it was kind of a longshot thinking the band would be ok with meeting a fan after a midnight flight, but it was my only shot. probably ever.Loujoe said:Oh man. Sad ^^^. I guess his job is to protect the band. That stinks.
at least i met matt backstage at a soundgarden show in 94! LOLYour boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -

The night I met him people I was there with said they waited the night before and ed came out and waved and took off. I literally waited till 4am. Crazy but worth it to me. What else would I be doing. Sleeping? Naaa0

i worked as a cook at a restaurant. one of the owners had his own side catering business. he won the soundgarden contract. when he found out i was going to the show, he told me he could get me and my buddy backstage. so we went backstage before and after the show. before the show, i saw chris walking by, but he was on a mission and looked unhappy, so i didn't want to run up to him to bother him. after the show we went backstage again, and i saw matt standing at one of the exit doors. i finally drummed up the courage to go say hi. and found out what he was doing looking out the door and laughing.Loujoe said:Do tell^^
ben was in the parking lot where all the tour busses were. the roadies were trying to reorganize them for some reason, and it was a tight space, so it wasn't easy. ben was running around, heavily intoxicated, jumping in front of the busses while all the roadies were screaming at him to get out of the way.
me and my buddy chatted with matt for a good 20 minutes. super nice chill guy. didn't seem uncomfortable talking to two complete strangers whatsoever.
wish i had a camera or even a sharpie to sign my backstage pass. but oh well. the memory is what matters.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Yes. That's great man. Just to be around at shows then is fantastic. I didn't appreciate it at the time. But glad beyond words for all the shows I've seen. I had CC jump down off climbing the rafters at a club and step in my foot! I'd never even think of chasing people down for autographs back then or ravaging the stage for picks/setlists. I could have some great historic pieces...but memories and being in the moment is where it's at. Thanks for the story!!!

yeah, it didn't cross my mind back then either. and yeah, when I was in it, I guess I just thought this is music now, this will last forever. so I didn't appreciate it either. my first PJ show was at Sun/Mudfest, and me and my friends were too "cautious" to get in the pit and really dig it. we stood back at a safe distance, which was really far back because there were tens of thousands there. I was 19! I should have been in there. I just heard too many stories of people losing their doc martens in the mud and getting boots to the head, I wanted no part of it.Loujoe said:Yes. looking back I wish I had. same with the soundgarden show. me and my buddy were on the floor in the pit. we stayed near the back. wish i would have been in there, like i was at all the festivals in the mid to late 90's. I was intimidated at the time.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Maybe saved yourself from getting busted up good. I jumped in the pit a lot. Most damage happened to others. I'm tall and prettly fearless. As long as you went with the flow you may get kicked in the head but that never hurts. The problem came with getting squashed with too many people. So Randalls Island we started about 10 back from the stage. A few songs in we bailed and watched from the back. I could feel my rib cage going in unnatural directions.
I'm not sure when it happened, but now if there is a show. I have at least 5 sharpies pre-tested and am always pick and setlist hunting.
Sorry to derail the thread.
Autograph is hot. Send me a copy. I'll take it to my wall.0
