The general purpose Save our Oceans Thread.

Many years ago sometime in the mid 1970's, my sister pointed out to me an article written by Jacques-Yves Cousteau in which the famed French naval officer, explorer, conservationist, filmmaker, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher warned us that we are killing the oceans and that if the oceans die, we die.

All these years later, the result of not heeding this warning is bearing down on us.  The time to act is now, now or never.  We do not have enough time to ignore this dire situation.

Here is a message posted earlier today from Sea Shepherd Conservation founder, Captain Paul Watson that illustrates just how serious this situation is:

The Rise of the Anthropocene - Coming to an Eco-System Near You

A Devastating Eruption of Toxicity is Happening Right Now in the Waters Close to Los Angeles.

Our ecological sins are coming back to haunt us.

Last month there was a major mass die-off of marine life off the Pacific coast of Siberia.

This month, Japan intends to release millions of gallons of radioactive water from Fukushima.

Plastic and chemicals continues to flow into the sea and Climate Change is causing acidification that is killing coral reefs.

The seas are being over-fished at an alarming rate and 40% of the take is blatantly illegal, yet the governments of the world do little and continue to subsidize the destruction.

And now a recent investigation has uncovered the horrifying fact that a million barrels of DDT and other banned chemicals that were dumped between 1947 and 1982 are now corroding and leaking deadly toxins. This is happening between Catalina Island and Palos Verdes, California.

The Ocean is dying. We are killing it through the destruction of eco-systems and bio-diversity and when the Ocean dies, we die!

This is not some radical green leftist conspiracy. It's a reality and that reality is rapidly creeping up to smack us all in the back of the head in a very alarming manner.

Ask yourself this question. Do you want to survive. Do you want your children and your family and friends to survive.

If so, get involved, become active and use your skill, your talents and your abilities to do something about it.

This affects all of us regardless of culture or politics - ALL OF US!

Oh and by the way if you live on the coast between Santa Barbara and Tijuana, it may be time to think of moving inland but then again it's all connected and everything is connected to everything else so no matter where we go, there will soon be no escape from the the toxic ecological seeds of destruction that we have been mindlessly sowing.

Super storms, hellish fires, floods the release of dormant pathogens from melting permafrost, the zoonotic transmission of novel viruses from diminished habitats and species are just the tip of the coming onslaught of Thermageddon

The countdown to 2030 has begun. Let's try and stop it.

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.
