Why is it only republicans who say I wish “insert any band or artist” would stick to music and not politics?

Because most artists tend to be liberal.0

Patrick_Sea3 said:Why is it only republicans who say I wish “insert any band or artist” would stick to music and not politics?Interesting question. I'm not a republican (and I hope you do get some here who will answer), but I what eddiec said above pretty much nails it. I could see some folks here saying, "I wish Ted Nugent would stick to music," or maybe Kid Rock or some modern "country" artists, but how many great bands are conservative? This kind of confirms a theory I have which goes like this:Creative artistic people tend to either not be great business people or don't have the time to be. Most highly successful people may have some forms of creativity, but only a small percentage are artistic, especially when it comes to music. This is why the world is basically run by people who are very good at business, but are generally not great in the creative arts. This is also why there are so many creative writers, artists, and musicians who struggle to get by. Out culture generally does not reward creativity. It rewards assertive, competitive, domineering and aggressive people. Artists are generally not like that. They often struggle in their work to express themselves as best they can and/ or like to have a good time. That kind of expression and fun is not well rewarded in our culture. The exception to that are the mediocre pop bands who are here today, gone tomorrow, and who appeal to the masses and creative highly commercial work. They are generally far less creative than truly great musicians, but they are more greatly rewarded."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

I will let Mick Jagger answer the question for you in a very simple way...”IT’s ONLY ROCK N ROLL, but I like it....”
Music is a release that allows one to fantasize. The Sheep buy it to an extent, but the real whacked out ones try to live it. Then you have the Wolf who enjoys it, feeds on it, and moves on with REALITY when the song or show is Over.0 -

music has words and words have meaning.
one thing that separates Vedder from other rock singers is he writes lyrics with tremendous care, thought and emotion.

Using political lyrics is neither right nor wrong. Or, rather, using and not using political lyrics are both right.
Of course, I cannot really answer the original question. But there’s plenty of apolitical stuff out there for people to consume.1995 Milwaukee 1998 Alpine, Alpine 2003 Albany, Boston, Boston, Boston 2004 Boston, Boston 2006 Hartford, St. Paul (Petty), St. Paul (Petty) 2011 Alpine, Alpine

Ah, another thread to highlight and promote unity! None of that us vs. them mentality. I mean, who needs that?
Really though, who gives a shit if someone says that about a musician? It doesn’t affect me or my listening pleasure; does it yours?
If others want to bitch about it, why would anyone else care?0 -

my theory, as with any other situation, republicans want to have their cake but they want to eat it their own way on their terms. they want the music, but they do not want everything that comes with the music. pearl jam, punk bands, etc all are a complete package. you buy their records and their music contains their politics. you go to the show, you get to hear the politics in the form of between song talking.
simple solution is, if you don't like it, don't fucking listen to it, and for god's sake don't go to a show and try to fuck it up for everyone that is there for the whole package."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Because they live deep within their bubble, and anything that goes against what they are used to hearing in the bubble is probably hard to reconcile. Plus they only say it when the politics aren’t their own. They don’t say it to Ted Nugent or Kid Rock. They are alowed to talk politics. Same with sports. Kaepernick is supposed to shut up and stick to football, but when Drew Brees made comments this year they were gushing all over him.0

It’s a form of oppression. A lot of why they want to separate it is because they disagree. Take to the streets and make your voice heard. Even though your white ass has no reason to feel you have been a victim of social injustice.I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on.0

The 76-year-old star also backed young climate change activists who held a demonstration on the red carpet at the Venice film festival, where 'The Burnt Orange Heresy' - a new psychological thriller he's starring in - made its debut.
