The "Perfect" Ending to 2020

Can't take credit for this, as it is  taken from an on-line article (before you roll your eyes, hear it out and you'll know why it would be the ultimate punch line to end this year)

A very real (if nearly impossibly remote) scenario exists that Trump keeps the Presidency and Kamala Harris is his VP.

Stay with me here, and I will paraphrase the scenario:

1) Electoral college ties (unlikely you say? All you'd need is Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona to go from Trump to Biden and all else remain same. There's actually another somewhat (un)realistic scenario involving 1 of the electoral votes from Nebraska since they and Maine both have individualized electoral votes, but let's stick with the first one and realize there is more than 1 way to get to a tie)
2) President gets decided by House. Biden wins you say!  Hold on. It's not done by house vote, but by State within in the House and surprise, surprise, more delegations by State actually are GOP as of now (26-23 with 1 split).  It is after this election, so that could switch, but let's keep going with fun and keep it in GOP favor (don't worry I'll help the Dems in a second).  Trump is President.
3) VP is actually decided by Senate which is direct vote since all States are already equal there (this Amendment that put this in place following the Jefferson/Burr election wanted to maintain States power).  So, if Senate flips this election - Harris is your VP.

Now, wouldn't that be fun?  Especially since it would be preceded by a fight over faithless electors and other real and imagined squabbles.  I say we go for it then have a Hamilton/Burr type standoff in the Rose Garden with Harris and Trump as Biden and Pence's second. Wouldn't it be fun to see Biden try to walk 10 paces?

And that, ladies and gentlemen is how you end 2020!  Lol.

    I’ll caution you on #2 above. The new  House majority decides who gets to sit in the chamber and determines the rules for counting electoral votes, not just in a tied electoral college but every presidential election. If there is a close House race involving lawsuits in a state in which trump intervened on the federal level, all Pelosi needs to do is withhold seating one house member on Jan 6th from the 26 states where Rs have a 1 vote advantage and the Rs are at 25 states and no path to the White House . The House has done this in the past (generally, it was last done in 2018 for a NC house seat) and it’s word for word their power in the constitution 

    If the Supreme Court does something heavy handed like they did to Gore 20 years ago, I can see Pelosi playing  hardball with the electoral vote count this time, especially if it’s apparent that Biden has more electoral votes without Supreme Court shenanigans.

    Trump clearly thinks he can strong arm the court into rigging a close election in his favor, but the constitution says the electoral college is counted in the House, the House sets the rules, and the House determines who gets to vote

    i read this exact scenario on CNN. i assume that's where you got it. it's really quite insane that is a possibility. as remote as it is, like you said.

    i read this exact scenario on CNN. i assume that's where you got it. it's really quite insane that is a possibility. as remote as it is, like you said.

    If it’s a close election and trump is trying to win in court, it may not be that remote.

    Like I mentioned earlier, #2 is incorrect. The House counts electoral vote counts (in all elections, not only those that are tied). The House sets the rules for how the count is done and most importantly the majority of the House determines whether House members get seated by Jan 6th.

    It would be nice if CNN read the constitution more carefully. The following article is slightly understating the House power here. All the House needs to do is refuse to seat one member in any state with a one representative advantage. It doesn’t need to be 24-24 as 26 votes are required to win the White House. So the Rs now control 26 state delegations. If one seat is a close election with a one seat majority, contesting that one election on Jan 6th is all Pelosi would need to do to prevent trump from taking the House vote.
