Help making a sample of a song

It’s been so long since I’ve done this, so I’m hoping to get some advice on the best way to rip a song from an album and share it to compare the source. I need to take a single song off from a CDR or from my iTunes and upload it for someone else. Looking for a free way to do this easily. Thanks
