Good beginner ukulele? *updated* Ohana CK-10

Hey everybody I’m looking for,a decent beginner ukulele preferably under $150.  I have been playing guitar for 20+ years and am decently versed in theory and chord composition.  Just looking for a decent instrument to start with if it is possible at this price point.   I have a fairly deep voice if that has any thing to do which type of uke I should choose.  Thanks

    Where are you?  Should be easy to find one at that price.  There are tenor ukes, which are a bit larger/deeper than your standard concert size and still have the reentrant string.

    There are also baritone ukes, which is just the high 4 strings on a guitar.

    Austin,  there’s no shortage of great shops, I just know nothing about Ukes.  I’ve had the vinyl ukulele songs with the book since it came out and figured now would be a pretty good time to finally use it to learn a new instrument.

    I bought an Ortega Ruocean concert ukulele for 79 Euro that I‘m happy with. Then again I suck at playing it but I wouldn’t blame the ukulele ;)

    After years I have learned that play before you pay is always the best way. Sight unseen means Sometimes you can get lucky sometimes you don’t.  I went through a rough spot and had to sell everything last winter.  Once I had the money I just had to have a D35 to replace the one I sold right. Ordered sight unseen. Not all guitars of the same model are created equal. That was a mistake.  I sold it and with a more level head I went to several local shops and played loads of acoustics in that price range.  Found an amazing J45 that I couldn’t be happier with.

    That being said in this time of lockdown $100 or so bucks for a beginner Uke is a gamble I am willing to take. Of course living here in Texas everything might be open on Friday which will lead to a whole different gamble of do I want to risk getting infected in public just to get a good uke.

    Decided to buy online because I doubt I will have time to actually learn to play once I’m back to work and the shops are open.  I was recommended to buy through Mims ukuleles because she sets up each uke even if mass produced and imo there is nothing worse than a poorly set up instrument. Anyway I got a laminate mahogany Ohana ck-10. Should be here within the week I’ll post a pick and review then. In the meantime I broke out my ukulele songs vinyl and began studying in preparation for the big day.

    Received today.  A CK-10 concert uke by Ohana from Mim’s Ukes reverb store.    Sounds great and has a nice setup.  Finally putting thE supplementary books that came with ukulele songs to use.  In hindsight a concert uke may be a bit too small for someone over 6’ tall. Oh well   I will adapt. Next uke will definitely be a tenor and maybe I can teach my daughter with this one. I already almost have ‘longing to belong’ down after one day. Hopefully I will be able to have a couple serviceable tunes by the time the weekend is over.

    Thanks.  It is a really nice uke for the price, and sounds good as well.  I’m already on my way to upgrading to a Tenor. I’m going to gift this one to my daughter as she is excited to start learning!
