Can Yield Go Double Platinum?

Question for those knowledgeable: As of right now, Yield has sold a little more than 1.9 million copies, giving it Platinum status. But with the reissue coming out, would that number go up and push Yield to Double Platinum? I'm not sure how it works so someone please clarify for me. Thanks!

that's what I'm hoping. But the vs/vitalogy reissues didn't help them. As they're both still at 7 and 5x platinum. And so far it's only vinyl. I don't think it's cd also

They also count paid streaming as sales also. I think a song has to be streamed 1500 times to count as 1 sale. And 10 songs from an album have to be streamed that many times to count as 1 album. I'm talking about spotify, tidal, amazon prime, apple music.

Well, four years later, it has to be close.  I've been a Barnes and Noble member for the last four years, and I've continuously seen Riot Act and Yield CDs for $4.99 there (Barnes and Noble) during that time.  As a result, I've bought several extra copies of each on CD just for the hell of it.  I mean, I get a 10 percent discount as a member, so even with tax one costs less than $5.00.  I'm guessing that with the vinyl re-issue that occurred several years ago, the Soundscan total for Yield has to be right around 2 million copies, which of course is double platinum status.  It seems that No Code is about five years away from double platinum status as well.  At that point, all five Pearl Jam studio albums released in the 1990s will have sold between 2 million and 11 million copies (according to Soundscan rather than RIAA).  Not bad at all!

Before streaming it would have been certified 2x platinum by now with 1.9 million because the next shipment would have counted.

It has been streamed 92,335,352 times on Spotify all the songs combined. If all the streams were from paid subscribers which they obviously were not. That would be equivalent to 61,557 copies sold. Apple Music, Amazon music, google play and so on I don't have access to their numbers. I also don't know if those Spotify numbers are all countries or just U.S.

But then again Even Flow or Alive should be certified at least Gold by now because they have enough plays. We need to ask someone who has access to this stuff

Should've gone double platinum 20 years ago because it's so awesome.

Certification doesn't just happen automatically.  The sales data has to be submitted to the RIAA for certification.  That process costs money, and the data is audited.  If the band or record company (which is, at this point, the band), doesn't care about this, they won't submit it for certification.  It could sell 5 million and remain "single platinum" if no one submits it for certification as double/triple/etc. platinum.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Yeah, but I'm referring to Soundscan sales totals rather than RIAA. Soundscan is more accurate, since it tabulates albums actually sold rather than albums shipped. The RIAA totals include all the albums floating around out there that have yet to sell.

I understand the band itself must submit for calculations and certifications, which they already did a handful of times from 2010 to 2013. What I really want to know right now is whether any albums (Yield, Lightning Bolt, No Code, Binaural, etc.) have recently met any of their respective certification thresholds. Perhaps the band is waiting to submit many of them simultaneously for certification. As far as the band possibly not caring about it, well, it'd be stupid for them to feel that way.

Reading past articles related to certain albums, it seems to me that Yield has already surpassed 2 million, Lightning Bolt is probably at about 500,000, No Code has likely reached about 1.9 million, and Binaural has sold more than 900,000. Additionally, Versus likely already passed 6 million and Vitalogy has probably sold more than 5 million as per Soundscan (not RIAA). If I could pay $1,000 right now to discover the current Soundscan sales totals, I'd be inclined to do it. At least I'd be able to stop thinking about this stuff for a while thereafter.

Email Nielsen Soundscan and inquire about becoming a client with access to the data.
