It's funny how we percieve music thru time i saw the complete Floyd Lineup twice the 2nd time was when they performed the complete wall concert here on Long Island and now i can't for the life of me stand to listen to any of the wall at all it just makes me wanna jump from a building , Now Medle is totally different i could listen to that album any day of the week and twice on sunday ...jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

A lot of hate for the Wall. I think this 'hate' comes from the act that the album no longer resonates with the listener. It's the album to begin your Pink Floyd journey with in my opinion.
Often, on these boards, I think sometimes we tend to dismiss some music because we have tired of it. And, in doing so, we don't pay the proper amount of respect that we probably should. There's a reason why The Wall and DSOTM are considered the classic Pink Floyd albums. Just because I listen to Saucerful more these days doesn't make it a better album. It's the classic case of 'what have you done for me lately?'
In the same vein, a new to Pearl Jam fan is going to get hooked listening to Jeremy and Even Flow before Pilate and Red Mosquito. They will 'grow into' these songs after acquiring a taste- maybe sooner than later... but given this... I think we should always acknowledge what needs to be acknowledged- a band's best songs and bodies of work often become the least popular among the fan base."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

I think it's a horrible choice to begin with. You gotta start with Dark Side....it's much more accessible.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"

Agree,
Meddle is also a great album and pretty accessible.0 -
My Floyd listening preference
Meddle > Animals > Wish You Were Here > Dark Side of the Moon > Pulse > Piper at the Gates of Dawn > Atom Heart Mother > Saucerful of Secrets > Momentary Lapse of Reason > Delicate Sound of Thunder > The Wall > Ummagumma > Obscured by Clouds > Division Bell > Final Cut“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”0 -

Just released to YouTube last week, along with the original Pompeii (only available to stream for a few more hours, so check that out first as a part of a #stayathome fundraising event). The Pulse performance is exceptional. I tend to prefer the performances without the extra musicians and visuals, etc., but this is peak Floyd. Richard, Nick and David are still the crux of what you hear and the backup singers are fantastic on the Dark Side songs. Amazingly, they are a little younger here than PJ is now... wow! They sure don't look it!
Anybody else think that the EKG "pulse" at the beginning looks familiar?
I also happen to think that some of the visuals in the Gigaton visualizers also give a nod to Pompeii.

The wall is what made me get into them enough to buy their stuff. We had to watch the video and do writings about what we thought it was about and such in college. I had seen the movie once before and hated it, thought it was totally lame, then I had to pick it apart and it totally changed my view and love for this record. As far as thematic albums go, this is up there with the best. Now best album to start with for a newbie? I never got into the SB Pink Floyd, just love David Gilmour, and that is not the sound I came to love. Though some of it is amazing, not my cup of tea. I think Wish You Were Here is a great place to start than branch out in both directions. Welcome to the Machine must be listened too with the Bass all the way up and as loud as the pictures on your wall allow. If you are really looking to get into them, Echoes is such a great retrospective of their career.0

I grew up in Cambridge, and since I've moved Stateside I've grown rather fond of Grantchester Meadows.
I used to see Syd out and about on his bike a lot. Said bicycle did indeed have a basket and a bell that rang.

HIGHEST recommendation for Nick Mason's new live album "Live At The Roadhouse." HIs Saucerful of Secrets band does all the pre-DSOTM material and to hear it live and mixed properly is great. The band is tight, Nick sounds good on drums, the lead singer sounds good (particularly on the Syd songs). Really dig it. Definitely check it out if you like those pre-Dark Side albums. Also, just nice to have a good live album. It seems like they're becoming relics of the past.

I got lucky and caught the Beacon show at which Roger Waters made an appearance for gong and vocals on "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun." Even Roger said that Nick's band sounded better than they did back in the day.
I got the RSD August Drops release, but I had no idea there was a full album release as well. I'll have to look for this.I SAW PEARL JAM0
