What’s your (positive, positive!) surprise song on Gigaton?

So, I’ve been reading previews and reviews for what seems like forever and finally listened to the record last night. Wow!

I figure everyone has some positive surprises from this album.  I’ll go first.

”Never Destination”
Wow, loving this song! I had heard comparisons to things like Swallowed Whole (which is not my favorite), but I really like the beginning drums and the chorus. Loving the imagery of giant waves (“the gaping maw, keeps us alive should we survive). Great solo as well!

There we go, not my favorite, but a song on there that gives me a big smile and good feelings!

So, what’s your positive surprise? Not your favorite necessarily, but something you are digging that you thought you wouldn’t!

Welcome!

It sounds like Matt Cameron was in Soundgarden mode for this song and that is never a bad thing!  If Pearl Jam in Riot Act era wrote "My Wave" this is what it would sound like

Didn’t think I’d like Never Destination and I fucking love it. Also, I thought I’d like Take the Long Way, as I generally like Cameron’s compositions, but it’s a stand out track for me at this point.

Buckle Up being a calm dreamy tune.  Just by title and track sequencing i was expecting a fun garage 100mph song

    First listen.

Let me preface by saying, I'm not giving this my undivided attention, because I'm quite concentrated on work through my first listen.

"Never Destination" reached through that tunnel of concentration and yanked me out when it got to Mike's solo at 1:40 min.  Hot damn!  That's one hell of a blues rock solo!  The rest of the song had my attention, and my leg just bouncing along.

Comes then goes.... It simply left me with goosebumps. Can't really say what it is. It's been quite a few PJ Albums since an acoustic track struck me so intensly on the first listen. Totally surprised me!

Retrograde. When I first read the track listing for the album I thought the title sounded kinda dorky and figured it could be the snoozer on the album. Boy was I wrong!

Retrograde. The end is just like ooooohhhhhhh.....Just stunning. Not sure how they'll pull it off live but man.

Someone compared Take The Long Way to Attrition since Matt wrote it. I think it's way better. Did Matt track the guitar? It seems.so by process of elimination as the rhythm track doesn't sound like Stone Mike or Ed.

Is Alright suppose to lead right into Seven-O'clock?  I heard a gap on an mp3 but wondering if they are supposed to flow?  Maybe on vinyl?

I really like Never Destination.  Rocks and it's cool how Ed sounds like Tom Petty.

Comes and goes has a off he goes feeling for me. Retrograde feels like Ed is channeling Chris Cornell’s spirit especially at the end. Wow. It’s a great album. Can’t wait to get my record to spin
