The Strokes

I have always been into this band. I remember in my activist days being pissed off the US version of Is This IT didnt have the "New York City Cops aint too smart" song as the cd was released close to 9/11. Seems there are two camps of people when this band is concerned. The first (myself included) absolutely love the band, and then you have the other group, composed of folks who think the band are overhyped, and crap. I remember they were humongous in the UK when they first hit the scene,
I really like the feeling of the songs. I get a very 1980's feel, from their records. I like the simpleness of the music, Albert Hammond jr is amazingly talented, but he's not out to reinvent the wheel, he is content with making great sounding guitar licks. I like how the Is This It and Room on Fire, had Julian's voice low in the mix, maybe the first taste this century of what was to become one of the biggest trends in modern music, the reverb vocals. Yes, Built to spill, and My Morning, were doing it before, but The Strokes were the first band to hit it big, with that style.
I liked as I said the simpleness of it, almost punkesque stage show, no elaborate stuff, just the music.

they are the band of the decade if you ask me, a lot better than The White Stripes in my humble opinion. Their solo stuffs are quite decent but every fan wants their new efforts!

I saw them on the First Impressions Of Earth tour. It was my Birthday actually.
They made my ears ring for 3 days. But I loved every min of it.

I love The Strokes, but have never had the chance to see them live.
My girlfriend has told me she had an ex who was real big into them. Apparently they went to see them at a private performance they won tickets to and the band showed up an hour late, Julian was shitfaced which resulted in forgotten lyrics and an unprofessional performance.
Certainly every band has their off-nights...7/2/06 - Denver, CO
6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)

saw them in charleston in 06, it was a small venue and it was loud as hell. very cool show.0

The Stokes are one of my top 5 bands. All three of their records are great and I saw them on a double headliner with the White Stripes a while back. The were on fire.
Also Albert's 2 solo albums are right up there with the Strokes stuff and Julian's new solo is pretty damn good too.
Cant wait for the bands next album. Great, great bandThere's a trapdoor in the sun.0 -
Gotta love The Strokes!! Awesome band, awesome sound! I'd love to see them live!
Particularly love Albert Hammond Jr.'s solo record as well! Haven't got around to listening to Julian's new one, will do soon!"Sometimes you find yourself having to put all your faith in no faith."

the band requested that song be taken off as it was released shortly after 9/11 and they thought it sounded too cruel to have a song saying 'new york city cops ain't too smart'
i love the strokes, though i think their last album was just ok. they could've left a few songs off of it, the first 2 albums were a lot shorter than 'first impressions of planet earth' there are some great songs, like 'ize of the world' but songs like 'the other side' bore me. i saw them on their last tour and while julian had trouble with some of the vocals they sounded great.
also, i think the other guitarist is better than albert but that's just me, they both are good.don't compete; coexist
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

i LOVE the strokes! i'd been wanting to see them live forever, but they always seem to play festivals by me so i was psyched when they were billed for NYE at barclays in brooklyn. overall, was not too impressed with them live. they were solid enough but not a lot of "presence" and not great interaction with the crowd at all. just didn't feel cohesive. and yes, SHORT show. overall glad i finally got to see em live, might do so again if given the opportunity (i give them a bit of a pass since it was a NYE show) but yes, was a bit disappointed. still absolutely LOVE their music tho!Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
