America's Gun Violence

There are aspects of American culture that even Americans can't understand because how large and diverse the country is. The 50 states are almost like 50 mini-countries sometimes. While many are similar (Ohio and Pennsylvania for example), others couldn't be more different (Florida vs. the Dakotas, Alabama vs. California, etc.). I know the east coast well, but I have no clue about the cultural aspects of most bible-belt states, or northwestern states like Montana and Oregon.HughFreakingDillon said:how does one go about hating an entire country? I'd really like that spelled out for me. it makes absolutely zero sense. it's so ironic that so many americans keep playing victim 'why does everyone hate us?". I just spent christmas in florida. absolutely loved it. the people were friendlier than they are in canada (mind you, i was in heavy tourism territory, but still, it's hard to fake nice). there are just certain aspects of american culture that people can't understand.
none of us, or no one rational, hates an entire country.

Seems fitting. Unless you've had your head in the sand for a while, you must have observed that elected and appointed white supremacists are shaping the US's domestic and foreign policies to be ever more hostile toward nonwhite citizens and nations and that the white supremacists US citizens/voters out there, emboldened by these policies and the vile political rhetoric that surrounds them, are increasing their violent attacks against nonwhite/non-Christian US citizens.Ledbetterman10 said:
What does this even mean? I know you guys hate America (or at least it's gun culture) and like to dismissively refer to it as "'Merica." But what's with the "KKK"?Gern Blansten said:

Oh please, fuck off with your lead paint bullshit. Your premise is ridiculous. Some of you people are just obsessed with Trump and work him into everything. It's pretty pathetic actually...to have Donald Trump on your mind so often. Really, what does have to do with this situation? There was gun violence before he was president. There was racism before he was president. A white guy shooting another white guy has nothing to do with ole racism. So your "murikkka" tag doesn't really work with this one...even if you really, really want it to.Gern Blansten said:

You know every now and then I watch too much news and listen to too many pundits about this and I get worried for a second, then I realize that all it is, is fear mongering and then I'm not worried anymore.Gern Blansten said:
Agreed....at some point gun control will happen. We will get to a point where even the complete gun nuts agree.HesCalledDyer said:Gern Blansten said:Wow, just wow. This is what happens when we normalize violence and gun ownership under the guise of "its muh freedumb" and "defend muh home." People think they can just whip out a gun over any fucking disagreement or 1st world problem now. Imagine if I just fucking pulled a side piece in the Levi's store the other day because they wouldn't honor the posted sale price on a pair of jeans - rather than the sensible response of "that's ok, it's only a couple bucks and I need new jeans." Or threatened to shoot the sushi delivery guy because they sent tamago instead of unagi like I ordered - rather than the sensible response of just eating the damn egg & being happy I'm fed. This is not fucking normal behavior to go shoot a maintenance man because your apartment is leaking. Except, in America, it seems to be growing ever more popular.I'm usually empathetic toward the elderly but fuck this asshole. I hear the terms "responsible gun owner" and "law abiding citizen" thrown around a lot in this conversation regarding weapons of destruction by the pro gun crowd. Look at this guy. Lived 93 years without any record whatsoever. Law abiding citizen, check. Responsible gun owner, check. As Halifax would say, until he wasn't. Preach all you want about "good guys with guns" but if we can't even trust a 93 year old, clean-as-a-whistle "good guy," how the fuck are we to trust anyone else?

True definition of an assault rifle is an actual military issued rifle, which no regular citizen is allowed to own, so I am not worried about losing that.Gern Blansten said:

I do not fear about being shot at when I am out in public. I don't fall for that type of fear mongering.0
