What's that sample from? Original Songs sampled and what they became.

OK I LOVE hearing samples in older hip hop and rap songs. Sometimes things aren't so clear as to where something came from or it was even a sample.
My first offering is from Frankie Cutlass. His Puerto Rico song from 1994 became a sample in a Chemical Brothers song. Remember the swinging meat part in the video? Did you find it?
Please post some if you have one. I'll do one a day if people like this.

Go to 447 if you can't figure it out, lol.

There’s a few really great documentaries on this topic, but my favourite is RiP: A remix manifesto . It gets into an interesting discussion on when a sample gets manipulated enough such that it becomes a new piece of music, versus a sample which is credited to, and royalties are paid to the original artist. Another way to think of it is when is sample manipulation more like it’s own instrument or creation versus borrowing.
The samples and originals in this thread are really neat, some I knew some I did not.0 -
I think skinny puppy snagged a james brown sample...aint it funky (jb), too far gone(skinny puppy). Absolutely two different styles of music.
Got to respect the godfather! Sure he'd be throwin some hey hey heys Ogres way. Doubt they sent a nickle his way. Maybe they credit him though. Dont have cd case to reference. You got to pay the man you know what I'm sayin'.0 -
James I'm sure got paid for the use of his stuff, but the guy that got ripped was his drummer Clyde Stubblefield. Clyde prolly got paid for the the session work and touring, but didn't see any royalties from his drums breaks.Loujoe said:I think skinny puppy snagged a james brown sample...aint it funky (jb), too far gone(skinny puppy). This is what Daft Punk is based off of. They take a sample then make it their own through over manipulation.ST66483 said:There’s a few really great documentaries on this topic, but my favourite is RiP: A remix manifesto .
