In seriousness, I don't even disagree with you that gun violence is a major problem and that assault-style weapons should be banned. But this holier-than-thou crap that you spew where you suggest than anybody that owns a handgun is an accessory to the NRA and thus, in your mind, responsible for mass shootings, is ridiculous. As I've said before, you come off like a liberal bot.

And interestingly, your "these are actual people that were murdered, not just statistics..." line is right out of the NRA playbook for response to shootings. Literally. This is the talking point they recommend be used both domestically and internationally. It's ironic when the NRA (and apparently you) accuse the media or individuals of "using" these data and stories to back up an anti-gun argument. Is there some actual, legitimate reason why we shouldn't link the cause of death to the death, in order to try to reduce those deaths? Would it be equally "pathetic" to argue against smoking causing lung cancer, or drunk driving causing fatal crashes? The NRA also uses these deaths, of course; they just use them to promote more guns.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

Two things: First my own opinion of the NRA: my problem with the NRA isn't that they're gun lobbyists. Rather, my problem with them is despite all their money and power, they don't seem to do anything good for society. They should be the leaders in gun-safety and gun-regulations. They should also take more of active role in the prosecution of gun offenses. One NRAism that I agree with is that many of the gun-laws that exist aren't enforced properly at all levels (investigation, prosecution, and sentencing). The NRA tends to bring that up when liberals call for "common-sense gun laws." They'll say that the laws are fine, but the prosecution of criminals isn't. I agree with that to a degree, but if they truly believed that, they'd throw their muscle/money around to make a change in that area. But they don't.
Secondly, you say "Until you “responsible” gun owners demand change, nothing will change." What would you have me do? I'm not a member of the NRA. And if I'm not a member of the NRA, they care about what I think as much as they care about what you think. Which is, of course, they don't care at all. They're a money-making business, and there's no money to be made from me. I was forced to buy a gun for my job, I bring it work, and then I lock it up at home and don't think about it again until the next day of work. I'm not the type of person the NRA either panders to or gives a crap about.

You ever call your Congress people or governor’s office to register your displeasure, as a “responsible” gun owner? No
Ever write a letter or send an email to your local or state newspaper demanding change? No
Ever not vote for the NRA backed candidate? I've voted for the democrat in every election I've voted in...so yes...every time.
Join any organizations fighting for sensible gun control legislation and change? Nope

Nope
Maybe you should?
Again, maybe you should. You could start it off with, “As a ‘responsible’ gun owner,’ I deplore the.........”
You need new dem candidates or should move.
I guess civic involvement isn’t a thing for some “responsible” gun owners? Too inconvenient?

When you say, "I have a far greater chance of having my life impacted by a “responsible” gun owner than I do by sexual slavery," I totally get that and agree. But I gotta say, when I've suggested on this board that Trump doesn't bother me because he doesn't impact my life, I've been called selfish and lacking empathy for those that are impacted. Not necessarily by you (though maybe, I can't recall), but definitely by a few people. But I can live in America, think life is fine for me under Trump, and still have empathy for those whose lives aren't fine under Trump. Just like you can live in the world, know that you'll never be subject to human trafficking, and still have empathy for those that are.

Was getting concerned that we wouldn't have another incident within a few days to bump this thread back up to the top.

We need guns to kill deer with our buddies on a Saturday morning. I get it. We can spare a few adults and kids.
