Poll--The Weakest Link: Parliament's 'Mothership Connection' Round 1

MedozKMedozK Tennessee Posts: 9,209
With our latest Champion 'Tangled Up In Blue' crowned, we will move onto another critically acclaimed album.

We will play this time to determine the GREATEST song on 'Mothership Connection' by Parliament.
For anyone new to the game:
You are going to pick the song that you think is the "Weakest Link" after 3 days I remove the three (3) songs with the most votes.
We will then move on to Round 2. - Remember you are voting to eliminate songs from contention.

Lets have fun with this. Remember debating and discussing why your right and others are wrong is always fun.

Mothership Connection is the fourth album by American funk band Parliament, released on December 15, 1975. Mothership Connection became Parliament's first album to be certified gold and later platinum. The Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry in 2011, declaring "The album has had an enormous influence on jazz, rock and dance music."

This is the first band that I haven't listened (knowingly) to any of their music. I know who Parliament is - Funk, but I will have to immerse myself in this album before I make a decision. I ain't rolling dice - if it went gold it deserves a listen.

(I think I may know Give up the Funk, but I shall find out)

You sure mix it up!! Nice going @MedozK

Funky!  Damn, I guess I have to find this LP.  Another missing link in my efforts to hear ALL the good music.  And man, oh man, there is  A LOT of good music!
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

I'm afraid I'm really not enjoying this album. I do like funk - I'm particularly a big fan of Tower of Power. I'm just not connecting with this particular band at all. All of their songs are boring me to death. Hard for me to decide on which songs to pick... I guess most boring to least boring, I dunno.

I spilled off the album on Spotify, and did find a couple of their songs I actually do like... none of them are on the album in question unfortunately!

I’m not partaking in this poll, haven’t a clue and have no desire to listen. But, if you need any help against those that eff’d you over on Idiot Wind, I will gladly assist. (Not to derail...I’m heading over to see Rolling Thunder Revue shortly.)

Yep, will have to wait for some people to listen to and experience a great album. I wonder how many people know which songs were sampled for well known rap songs much later.

Yeah, it could almost pass for a Zappa tune.

I definitely heard the bass line from “Let Me Ride” by Dr Dre on one of the opening tracks. Was it from “Mothership Connection”? I always thought that instrumental was original, but guess not. This album was clearly somewhat of a blueprint for the early Snoop and Dre albums.
