Nashville advice

hey guys.  Traveling to Nashville this summer for the very first time and looking for advice.  It’s basically going to be a sight seeing and find good food vacation for three days.  Is it best to stay downtown right off of Broadway?  If we stay on the outskirts of the city and drive around is there plenty of parking downtown?   Any other tips for experiencing the city?

I’ll definitely be touring the Hatch museum near the Ryman.  That’s at the top of my list

thanks!

I stayed about a 10 minute walk from broadway which was perfect. A little distance from the craziness, but close enough to walk everywhere. It worked out great. I’m not from there, but my two recommendations are Martins BBQ and Bearded Iris brewing.  Great city...enjoy!

Not sure about parking downtown but you'd prob want to stay within walking distance of Broadway street.  And I second the Bearded Iris Brewing recommendation....that place is awesome!

Wife and I went back in 2016 and we stayed out from downtown just because of a great deal on the hotel. I thought Nashville was pretty easy to get around and didn't have issues parking. It will probably be packed on Broadway, but you should be able to park about a 5-10 minute walk away. I remember finding public parking near the hockey arena.

For things to do, if you enjoy history, go to the Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home) and do the tour of the Ryman. I'm not big into country music, but I really enjoyed that and the Country Music Hall of Fame. At the time they had a really neat section dedicated to Johnny Cash. Also, the RCA Studio B tour is pretty cool and I think you can buy tickets at the CMHoF.

For dining, we kind of struck out on that. I guess try the Nashville hot fried chicken (the place we went to, Hattie B's, was good enough, but it's not a must go restaurant). The one place I would recommend is Monell's at the Manor. It's a drive from downtown, closer to the airport, but it was really good. It's a family style southern restaurant. They bring out tons of food and if you leave hungry, it's your own fault.

Hope these suggestions help and hope you enjoy your trip. It's a fun city with lots to see and do.

We went back in 2016, also. Stayed at the Comfort Inn on Demonbreun. It was about a 20 minute walk to Hatch, but one of the days we decided to save some energy and we parked at the Music City Center - plenty of spots, and inexpensive. Right next to Hatch/Bridgestone Arena, a block or so from the Ryman.

We didn't have a ton of time, so we didn't see much, but on the food front, if you like BBQ, DO NOT skip Peg Leg Porker. That trip was a road trip from NH to Memphis for the World Championship BBQ Cookoff, and we focused on BBQ on the way. Peg Leg was some of the best we had on that trip! If you want something a little more fine-dining, check out Adele's - I'd recommend the pig's ears, JW Potatoes, and the coconut cake (if you like coconut, that is).

I'm not a country fan but the country music museum was really good/interesting.

I love Nashville...the live music at any given bar is really good.

I live here in Nashville. I'm actually a rare unicorn as I was born here. We're very rare nowadays lol. Hit me up for anything you need help with

    For restaurants downtown area:
The Southern - $$$ steaks and seafood it's on the corner of 3rd and Demonbreun (pronounced De-mun-bree-un)
The Diner - $-$$$ across the street from the Southern 24 hr 6 story diner with each floor different food
Bakersfield Nashville - $$  tapas style, small Mexican food
Acme Feed& Seed - $$-$$$  corner of 1st and Broadway. Actually never been there, but hear it's good
Martin's BBQ - $-$$. One of my favorite BBQ places to go
Those are some of the  good ones, but there are a lot of places to eat downtown. Most all the bars on Broadway serve food. Lots of high end steakhouses too like Morton's, Jeff Ruby's, Oak, Bourbon Steak on the top of the new JW Marriot.  For breakfast, Biscuit Love is good, Pancake Pantry over near Vanderbilt on 21st ave is good and Loveless Cafe in West Nashville is a staple. Some of the best places are in the Gulch, which is where the locals hang out lol

Agree with all the above and you HAVE to check out Elliston Place Soda Shop..it is Nashville. Best shakes around and it is mentioned in the book of 1000 places to see before you die! No brainer

I mean if it can be the front cover off a classic 1976 George Jones album and a Margo Price music video... it has to be place to check out.
I actually recreated the George Jones cover... had to wait extra long to get that back table...lol

Yeah, the original Elliston place is good. The one that opened up south of town in Cool Springs is not as good. Arnold's is a good meat and 3 and if you don't mind meeting new people, hit up Monell's. it's a family style dining place in Germantown on the northwest side of downtown.

Man I'm getting hungry now lol

Had dinner here. From 2012 but it was farm to table and excellent. Grab a drink in the Oak Room and check out the old school hotel, lobby, oak room and restrooms. Old history there.
