    I've never understood the want or need to take a firearm and make it full auto?  You take a legal gun and then make it illegal and a big time felony when you get caught with it.

    If it's going on an illegal gun then I guess it's just stupid all around.

    Eleven people killed in shooting at Virginia Beach municipal complex, police say



    Breaking: Eleven people were killed in shooting in Virginia Beach, police said. They say the suspect is also deceased.

    Shots were fired in the Virginia Beach municipal complex Friday afternoon, injuring multiple people, according to the police department. They said one person was in custody.

    A Tweet from the police said they think the shooter acted alone. There were no immediate reports on the conditions of the victims.

    City Councilman Aaron Rouse Tweeted, “Pray for our City!”

    A woman who works in the Public Works building where the shooting occurred said she and about 20 co-workers barricaded themselves in offices with desks. The woman, Megan Banton, told Channel 13 NewsNow that she could hear gunshots and police officers screaming for people to “get down.”

    “I just don’t know why anyone would do something like that,” Banton told the station. “I don’t know what would possess somebody to come in and just start shooting at people.”

    Virginia Beach Master Police Officer Allen Perry said officers were called to the Public Works building 2, which is in the municipal complex, for a report of shots fired. A specific time was not immediately available. The complex contains about 25 buildings.

    “We are working to contain the scene at this point,” Perry said.

    Perry said later that officers were in the process of clearing the building where the shooting occurred. He said he could still not give a specific number of injuries.

    Five patients were sent to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and one patient who was taken to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is being flown to the Level I Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, said Sentara spokesman Dale Gauding.

    Sheila Cook, who was in the court house building in the complex, told the local ABC affiliate Channel 13 NewsNow that she heard muffled gunshots but knew it wasn’t in her building. She said police acted quickly in telling people that they were safe after the shooter had been apprehended.

    “That was enough to make me feel safe enough to come outside and that God was with us,” she said. She added,”I’m feeling shaken and relieved at the same time.”

    Banton, the administrative assistant who was on the 2nd floor of the public works building, told Channel 13 NewsNow her boss told everyone it was not a drill and they ran into an office and closed the door. She said she “called 911 as fast as possible. They couldn’t come fast enough.”

    Banton said she has an 11-month-old baby, “and all I could think about was getting home to him.”

    Va. Beach City Councilman Michael Berlucchi said the situation remains fluid, so he didn’t want to comment on the particulars of what happened but said he was in shock.

    “The victims are friends and neighbors,” Berlucchi said. “And the people that serve the people of Va. Beach. This is a senseless, horrible tragedy.”

    Gov. Ralph Northam Tweeted: “My team and I are actively monitoring the situation in Virginia Beach. Please stay away from the area and follow all instructions from law enforcement.”
