Way to go MSN/Post.So we're at 415.26 PPM when anything over 350 causes greenhouse effect. Wonderful. About 12 years ago I organized a gathering on the steps of our city hall to call for congress to limit carbon in the atmosphere to 350 PPM as part of the 350.org "Step it Up" campaign. I'm not sure I could do that again.I think we've hit the point of no return. I think much of humanity will be gone by the end of this century. And I do hope those scattered remnant human populations will have learned from our foolishness."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

I have long felt we are well past the point of no return...I am just here for the ride at this point. However, I am not so sure when it all ends...you figure in the next 80 years so the planet will be unliveable...you might be right. I live in southern Ontario in the great lakes region and they are dealing with extremely high water...a marina could not open for the season, yes, a marina is not safe to place for boaters to moor their boats. And I do not believe any government or any politician has the solution...just look at recycling, in Canada, we recycle less than 15%...so until we figure out what to do with our rubbish we are fucked...brianlux said:Meltdown99 said:It was 84 degrees near the Arctic Ocean this weekend as carbon dioxide hit its highest level in human history

As far as humans go, I think our best hopes lie on the possibility that small scattered groups of people will survive in various places. As far as the planet goes, the hope (and I think there is at least a fairly good chance) lies in the earth's ability to heal itself in a mere million years or two (which is not long in geological time.)Meltdown99 said:

Very odd. We usually only see them in the deep water off of Montauk.Meltdown99 said:Great white shark spotted in Long Island Sound for first time ever: Researchers
About 20 years or so a Mako was caught inside the inlet between Long Beach and Island Park. THAT was very unusual too. They said it came in with the storm at the time.0 -
Did anyone hear that the plastic companies are gearing up to fight the damnation of plastic straws?

Oh, but we wouldn't want to ask people to carry their own reusable straws or drink out of a cup. How Un-American! And inconvenient! Damn commies!tempo_n_groove said:

That's likey the truth. When they start banning plastic bottles for water and when those for-profit water bottling companies, in some cases are allowed to drain water from our lakes for next to nothing (nestle come to mind) go out of business, then I'll take the plastic straw ban as serious...everyone pretty much has safe cleaning drinking water in western society...go to a Costco, people walk out of those places with bottled like they drink a case a day...lmfao.brianlux said:Meltdown99 said:

Trash and burn: Metro Vancouver will incinerate Canadian garbage returned by Philippines

That's if it makes it to land, the Philippines are planning on just dumping into the water...lol

Sticking with the "Let's talk about ways to make it better" part of this thread, is (as the article claims) incineration the best way to deal with this particular situation, or are there better solutions? We need good solutions to these kinds of problems!Meltdown99 said:Trash and burn: Metro Vancouver will incinerate Canadian garbage returned by Philippines
