  •  Thanks Ten Club for all the work and service for all the years.  Thanks dimitrispearljam for posting a whole bunch along the way. Thanks Pearl Jam for beyond what I can express. Happy New Year to everyone!
  • i think it would have been a cool idea for the fan club single to be a track that pearl jam recorded that was originally a side project or solo song of one of the band members.

    like pj does rndm

Or even proper releases of Thunderclap, Harmony and...was it Foldback?

I bet a lot of fans don't even know about those songs.

I love this idea!  This is the kinda stuff they could easily put on the annual single. Thus one of the many reasons I wish the band and 10c would reconsider the decision to end the single.

at the end of the day, it's just sad.  i feel as though the band cares less and less about the fans, and more about just doing select shows in the same cities tour after tour.  i miss the days of ordering shirts and stickers via the mail in order. those days have gone. but im sure they'll be happy to take my money for the membership so they can send me my awesome emails....

Those days arent just gone, they are long gone. 10c hasnt been like that for a long time. Its easy to get nostalgic but a lot of things just arent possible given the size it is now.

With all due respect, how precious is your time if you have enough of it to have posted over 135,000 times on this message board?

So... I guess you're saying you have a better life than him?
I'm noting the irony in his stating that his time is too precious to dwell on a decision relating to Pearl Jam when he has devoted enough time to commenting on Pearl Jam to have posted 135,000 times.  I'm not judging him; I'm just pointing out the irony of what he said.  I love that he is as passionate about the band as he is.  There's nothing wrong with devoting one's precious time to a thing that one loves.

  • Never posted before but I am sad about this.  I Joined in 98 and have a member number in the 193 range.  After some crafty use of ebay and sales on 10C website, I collected the other singles.  I will have a full set once these last two get shipped.  Is there any way to get an analog membership count pre announcement and then get another next year?

I love the optimism some of you see in the final line, but honestly “we’re excited to see what the future holds” is very ambiguous and tells me ten club is not making any promises.  If it had said “we are excited about what the future holds” or something more of a tease like that, then OK, but the phrase “excited to see” is as non-commital, ambiguous , and open ended as it gets and I don’t think we should hold our breath for much.

Another thing that's frustrating about this decision is that if you look on the bay there have been a lot of bootleg vinyl releases lately, and some of them actually look really nice as far as art, etc... I know most of these are radio shows and i'm not sure, but i think that's how whoever makes these are able to somehow legally do it, but honestly i have no idea... but the fact is you have other people doing that independently, while as we all know, we've been waiting for something, anything for years... I just think that shows how easy it is to press and release something, also some people have mentioned the reason for the delay maybe being not wanting to get in the studio and record something new for the singles, but the live improvs alone this band has played over the years, which were mostly pre-2000 shows, i know a lot of those have improvs on them, but the live improvs that have never been officially released would be enough to easily be released as singles and could be put out for years... and on that note, here's to hoping someday they'll release all the live improvs on a lost dogs type release... we all also know that there are plenty of unreleased demos that date back to binaural of unreleased songs that we can all hear on youtube that they could easily release as singles, but maybe they're saving those for lost dogs volume 2, or even better, a new album... there are just so many possibilities... in the end there's a lot of unrealeased music still out there,... sad that even with all of that there will be no more singles, but hopefully we'll get an official release of it all someday...

CDs cannot be ordered with the codes...they never have been.

Partially true. In the distant past you could get $10 off a cd. But no more.

Yup. "excited to see" means they don't know what's coming either. If they had a plan in place they'd have said something like "excited to share..." meaning they'd reveal the details soon. But "excited to see" means they don't have a clue and are waiting for things to unfold just as we are. Whatever. It was likely a rash decision, which needed to be made before they were committed to yet another year and another single. So they dumped the perk, and are now scrambling to figure out a new perk that people might enjoy and which might justify an analog membership level. Since this is no longer a band that is interested in making new music together, I'd like to see something along the lines of Neil Young's digital archive, as my2hands suggested.

I apologize for the confusion.  I was wondering if you could see the number of people who were analog members before the announcement and then see how membership drops off.  I also wonder how many people discontinued the auto renew feature shortly after the announcement

I'm out on Analog for obvious reasons. Fan club since I was 17 in 2000. I get everyone is getting older, but I'm not giving them an extra $20 a year to get a t-shirt that costs 10 cents to make and sucks. Sad to see what they've become in a lot of ways. I love PJ and listen to them daily but their story now is sad. Just a few money grabs a year, which I have paid for as well. It'd really take some minimum effort by them to make it be great, but they can't be bothered. Glad they are loving their life and i'll keep a digital membership and go to shows, but that's about it. It's a nostalgia act. If i didn't live in Boston and get tickets a lot I'd cancel completely if I was anywhere but the 8-10 cities they pay. It's a shame.

PJ is not a nostalgia act IMHO. Maybe in ten years if there is no more new music. Even then, nostalgia acts are when you go see the guy from Herman's Hermits at a casino in Schenectady.

Agree, if I was somewhere they haven’t played in a long while, I would probably not renew.  Being in Chicago is lucky, as far as shows go.

Ahhh.  I am sure that they can see that.

We were visiting with a good friend and fellow forum member just yesterday.  We had an on and off discussion about this all day.

A single guy who is able to travel, he has been one to be able to take advantage of the ticket perk portion of membership more than me.

Married and mom to a 15 year old, I have been more on the annual single side of the perk. Tough to go to far away concerts.

Both of us agree that they have always delivered the goods, but always on their time.  My pal mentioned, in regard to those bent out of shape, mentioning class action and contacting police, "I wonder if they recall that this is a membership to a band fan club?"

In the end, we have been given a gift of music and we are all here because we have loved that gift.

Something good will be sorted out.  Give it time.

I would hope those mentioning police/class action are limited to a number less than 10 people.  We'll see what comes next but I think that the main takeaway that is disappointing people is the realization that the band just doesn't care as much as it used to.  At least that is my main takeaway.  Perhaps it is a cost issue for them but they've done these singles for a long time now and probably have a good idea of the cost.

  • I read the first couple of pages of this thread and pretty much everything is said, but I´ll give my view too. I´m not sure if I´ve ever posted to this forum before, but I guess I have to try it. I´ve been a PJ-fan since the beginning of the 90´s have been a member of the fan club for some 20 years. The only time I´ve seen the band live was at the Roskilde festival in 2000, which most of you have probably heard of. That evening not only ended the way it did, but it also formed a bond to the band and fellow audience members who were present that has been strong to this day.

I have been a vinyl collector all of my life, and am well aware that I am part of a thing that will not exist at some point any more. Thats perfectly ok and there is no bitterness involved. The world is not a museum and I am a consumer of music on Spotifys and likes. However, a digital download can never mean the same thing as vinyl (and this annual vinyl single) for me versus a band. One of the main reasons for why I thought the Ten Club was cool in the first place was the vinyl single. At the time that I joined vinyl was almost dead and here were these cool guys that believed in the same thing I did and had a really special thing in their fan club. It was romantic and old fashioned.

So where does this leave us? The prize of the membership has gone up dramatically over the years. A t-shirt has been included, but most of them have been really basic bulk with not much effort. As a Scandinavian, I have no use for pre-purchase tickets to Boston or Seattle or whatever outside of Europe. PJ visits Europe once in 10 years maybe and the last time they played my home country was around 1997/1998. So 50 dollars for what now that the main reason is gone? Of course I could become a digital member, but I have no interest in paying for things I have no interest in.

So, unless there is an announcment with something new and really interesting that is to be included in the membershit, we are parting ways. I am still of fan of the band and the music.

Pearl Jam played Europe in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018.  2006 was the last year they played a concert that was less than 160 miles distance from my hometown.

I think that for a lot of fans a digital membership will be needed. There will be members only stuff in the shop like vinyl.

I admit, my prediction was maybe a bit exaggerated. Given previous touring activity, there is justified reason to believe that they turn up more than once in the next ten years ;) Maybe my pessimism was based on the activity of recent years and general disappointment over the vinyl single cancellation. EDIT: And I have great respect for fans who travel to see a band (like you seem to do). I wish I could do it more.

  • If the Christmas single vinyl is going away, and the physical stuff we used to get (Deep, stickers, etc.) has also been going away, the analog membership price should drop, or replace the single with some other exclusive physical merch. The free 10C shirt is ok, but the designs are kinda lame. Give us more incentive to be analog members. Seems the perks have been becoming less while the price increases!
