My brother owns a timeshare and I've stayed with his family on three different trips to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. He basically gets a nice condo unit at a resort with two or three bedrooms. I know he got golfing deals through the resort (around 50% rate), and there are probably other activities/deals that the resort puts on that the family/kids can participate in.
I've not crunched the numbers on whether he made or lost money, but he has said he would not do it again. I think the main reason is that they vacation in the same place each year and he would have been better off buying a property there that would be easier to sell at some point.
I don't think for you and this one time use there would be much difference between using a condo through the timeshare or just renting a condo yourself. Perhaps you will save some money from your friend versus renting a unit on your own.

Yeah, this is the comparison I am trying to do. I see some timeshare "rental" prices and am wondering if it's all-in or if it's the rental price plus the week of the owner's annual fees. The rental fees are what I would expect for an airbnb, but the fees added would basically double it.bootlegger10 said:I don't think for you and this one time use there would be much difference between using a condo through the timeshare or just renting a condo yourself. Ah, yeah, I thought you were just renting from an acquaintance. I misunderstood the question. My bad.given2fly23 said:

Never buy a time share, completely terrible investment. There are literally companies out there that help people get out of them because of how bad they can get you.0

I would think you would just agree up front on what your cost would be for renting someone’s timeshare condo just like you would agree if you were renting someone’s house for a week.
I have ave no experience though. Going through Airbnb on this?0 -
I bought into Disney timeshare un 2001 I’ve used it quite often they have a good exchange program so you can stay in other locations throughout the country and world wide , I’m vacationing in January in Aruba through an exchange so I get my usual two bedroom fully equipped unit ...jesus greets me looks just like me ....0
