Poster Flattening

This may seem like a dumb one but here goes. Every poster I’ve  received is curled with the image side of the poster inside so my question is are you better off to flatten the poster with the image side up or down or does it matter? I use the poster between two foam boards and heavy books on top method. Also does anybody know where to get those little fabric bean bags I see on the corners of the posters in some of pictures on the forum?

I think the bean bags are just regular corn hole bags.
  • I use an iron and an ironing board.

    Come out great!

The foil prints are a little tricky though!

Don't know about the bean bags, but when flattening my prints, I'll start by letting the poster relax on its own for a few days, then alternate it image side up or down a few days at a time with weights on it.  I do this for about 3-4 weeks, sometimes longer if the poster has been trapped in a tube for a long time.
I put mine inside a tri-fold project board with acid-free paper on each side of the print, and place the weights on top of the project board.  It works well.

That’s a waste of time.  Throw them in the dryer for a few minutes, take them out while they’re still warm, and smooth them out with your hands.  Works every time.

roll the poster in the opposite direction and put it back in the tube for an hour....comes out relatively flat

    I usually just steam mine.

I would only recommend this with a 4-5" tube.

I use pint glasses on the corners with the front of the poster up. I give it 24 hours, then frame them.

Thank you to those with the serious replies. As far the more sarcastic replies, I can see there’s some pent up energy around here, clearly it’s been too long without a good Psssst lol.

    yeah that's good advice

Use the empty tube to start the reverse roll...that ensures that you don't develop a fold.  Then just pull the tube out once the roll is complete.  Tighten it up and place it back in the tube.

but yes, 24 hours under some heavy books or glass should flatten it out good enough to transport in a folio or insert in a folio

Buy acid free foam board...youll need at least 2 pieces...and then very large binder clips and acid free craft paper.

    Layer 1: Foam board
    Layer 2: Poster #1
Layer 3: acid free craft paper
    Layer 4: Poster #2
    Layer 5: Foam board

And so on....you can do up to 5 at a time with that method and wont take up a whole bunch of floor space anywhere.  I usually wait a week, and voila.  The longer you wait, the better the result.

My buddy used to have his sister sit on them for a few hours.  He said it worked like charm.
