The north in general is a very cold, can be inhospitable and the summers are much shorter ... most people from the southern areas who go up north in pleasant weather for vacation can barely make it a week or 2 because of such pest as black flies...
The beauty of the north is almost unmatched anywhere ... and the north has a much smaller population which makes vacationing in the north worth it. I like the North, definitely have a Alaska on my bucket list ... I'm used to cold weather, enjoy cold weather actually ... but even I do not want to live in the north permanently ... I do not like seeing snow after March and before the middle of October ... lol.Give Peas A Chance…0 -

Moving to Alaska probably means owning a truck or SVU 4*4 ... I bet there are a lot of those vehicles in Alaska.

Summer you'd have fun. Salmon everywhere!!!I would hate the summers in AK. Ketchikan might be OK because is is further south (really should be part of Canada) but a town like Fairbanks where it's only sort of dark for 6 hours at night? No!As for salmon- watching them for a little while would be OK but that would get old fast. And of course I would never eat them."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Ask yourself this question: If the oceans are not over-fished, why are fishermen and women having to go further and further out to sea? That is how Salvador Alverenga ended up stranded in the Pacific ocean for 438 day (the story of which is told in Jonathan Franklin's excellent book 438 Days). It is why Raul Gomez spends longer time at sea catching smaller tuna (that story is here: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/aug/23/they-are-taking-out-a-generation-of-tuna-overfishing-causes-crisis-in-philippines )The evidence is plain to see. The ocean are being over-fished. I don't know why anyone would argue they are not.

Meltdown99 said:brianlux said:Meltdown99 said:josevolution said:I agree the whales should be off limits except for the indeginous population..Actually, being on the side of the whales, I do have a say. You can disagree with it, fine, but it's how I see it and how I call it.And I've stood up for Native people many a time in these forums- more than most- but this is one time I don't agree with a certain practice. If anyone tell me "where to go" that's a reflection on their close minded thinking. But dig this, I think a lot of natives would agree with me. I'd bet on it."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0
