Car broken into during Seattle N1

Unfortunately, Seattle N1 didn’t have the best ending for me personally. I walked back with some friends down Utah Ave to find the back hatchback window of my Scion smashed and a few items stolen out of my car.  A man living in his tent in the area told me he intervened with the people who pulled up in their car and committed, and said they ran off. Of course, a smashed window for a few hours means something is coming out and my daypack was just placed too close to that back window. My iPad and some running/hiking clothes were in there. And my wedding band that used to belong to my grandfather, which I had placed in a pouch in one of the pockets for safe keeping during the show (oops). It just may have been hidden well enough that my theif didn’t find if he s in a rush. If anyone hitting the second show sees a Gray/Black/Orange REI daypack, please let me know or turn it over to Seattle police, as I’ll be filing a report this morning. Can’t miss the area on Utah, near the Starbucks headquarters, as there is a sad, piece of glass with a heart in Oregon sticker lying there.  Wedding band is gold with a smaller outter loop ring of white gold. Very unique.

It very much wasn’t lost on me that after attending a benefit show for the homeless, a very kind homeless man intervened and probably kept my car from getting cleaned out. I had more things packed into my car than should have been there, being parked in South Seattle, after being on something of a road trip the past few days. I’ll plan on bringing some food down to Utah St on Friday. From the sounds of it when the police are called down in that area on property crimes, very often, the tent dwellers are forced to move. It would absolutely ruin my week to see those tents forcibly packed up on Friday.

That sucks....hope your pack turns up and you can at least get that ring back. The rest can be replaced I suppose.

sounds like you are taking it pretty well considering. Pretty cool of you to help the homeless guy. I hope your things turn up soon.

Sounds like I wasn’t the only one. The officer taking my report told me that they have had about a dozen calls from incidents last night.

That's shitty, I'm sorry that happened to you.
Property crime like this is rampant on the west coast - the best and only advice in this neck of the woods is to NEVER EVER leave anything of value in your car, or anything that could even look like it might be of value, i.e. any kind of bag - they will break in to find out what's in there - it could be garden clippings, but they want to find out. People will break into a car if they just see a quarter on the console.

Sorry dude. I never leave anything of value in my car, ever. I get there are times that can't be avoided, but that list of stuff you said you had in there? That's what criminals are hoping they find.

Can you run a "Track my iPad" or something similar?

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea. Isn't there an app that comes on these devices to locate them? I guess the thing needs to be powered on though.

My colleague had her work laptop stolen 2 years ago, and it was just recovered in the US and sent back to us last month, lol. There is hope! ;)

As someone from Seattle, I'm sorry that this happened to you.  That's not the welcome that I'd wish for anyone visiting my city.  I hope you can recover your belongings somehow.  For folks coming on Friday, I'd advise parking your car either in the official Safeco parking garage, one of the lots right next to the stadium, or north of the stadium in Pioneer Square or downtown.  The area to the south of the stadium (even just one block south past the merch tent), it pretty sketchy and all sorts of folks linger around there.  Even though someone may be looking for free or metered parking, I never park my car at night south of the stadium.  Best wishes AKmatt!

Sad to say, but welcome to Seattle. Car break-in stories are more frequent than the rain. If there's anything in your car more valuable than the cost of getting a hit a heroin, you're at risk of being a victim. Cops are overwhelmed and won't do anything beyond filling a report.

Yeah, parking in the area near the stadiums is always a gamble, especially at night. During the day, not as much but it still happens. Rule is to never leave anything in your car in plain sight. Not even some change in the cup holder. The only thing they can see in my car is the club on the steering wheel. I suppose you've already heard all this so sorry this happened to you. But yeah, investing in the $30+ to park in the lot maybe worth it but sadly that is not even guaranteed.

I knew better, and had planned to leave my car elsewhere after the merch line. But, the merch line took about an hour longer than I anticipated and took an unnecessary risk after seeing all the cops patrolling around before the show.
