Right, they have it just like just about every other generation before them...except for those kids that got drafted to get killed.PJ_Soul said:
I haven't failed in my comprehension at all - I know you didn't say they have it easy, but you did specifically say, "I certainly don’t think today’s youth have it hard at all and I think it’s 100% bs line of thinking." That is what I was responding to.cincybearcat said:And again people continue to fail at reading comprehension. It isn't hard....but it seems it is far to often. I never said they had it easy....I said they don't have it harder. Each generation has their own hardship issues. And the ones during WW had it by far the worst. The rest have some good and some bad.

But I'm saying that they very clearly do not have it just like just about every other generation before them, at least in some cases, depending on where it is, in the context of the discussion - Obviously the conversation is about people's financial situations and ability to support themselves securely, not about getting drafted.cincybearcat said:

Yeah sorry, I didn't mean any personal attack...just a joke. I like to inject humor into these discussions and sometimes they don't go over well in print form. But it's who I am so I'm unlikely to change it despite the negative consequences!!!PJ_Soul said:

I don't know about where you live, but if we're talking about finances and what you can do with your hard work and money, and how able you are to take care of yourself independently, I can absolutely guarantee you that younger people have it WAY WAY WAY harder where I live than our generation did. I mean, everyone of all ages has it way harder here, but especially the younger gens, because their work simply does not get them what it used to get people. The cost of living vs. salaries is simply completely fucking out of wack now. BC actually has the lowest unemployment rate in the entire country.... but has the worst salary vs cost of living stats on the entire continent. Obviously that is a serious hardship above and beyond any that people had 20 and 30 years ago in terms of what they can do with their hard work. So maybe youth don't have it hard in your world... They sure do in mine.cincybearcat said:
No i dont think my era was tougher. I think almost all have their own hardships. I certainly don’t think today’s youth have it hard at all and I think it’s 100% bs line of thinking.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:The daily pressures kids face are different than what we dealt with.
For one... social media has impacted our youth more than can be measured. There's a reason behind heightened levels of anxiety and depression in our youth.
For another... look at starting wages and look at the cost of cars, houses, concert tix, whatever. My first jobs as a busboy, cook, waiter and bartender all allowed me to pay rent and do things.
Look at the costs of university and the competitiveness for getting into programs. Some guys that got into- say- pharmacy 25 years ago would not be able to do so this era.
I could go on, but I won't.
Cincy... if you feel you were brought up in the tough era... you're free to think that. I don't feel the same way.
The social media aspect is something that is New a tough, but pretty low unemployment is pretty nice. As is having parents willing I have you live with them if need be. I think it’s different, but not tougher.
It's endless.
Aside from everything else that has been mentioned, look at the cost for young people to insure their vehicles. Basic coverage is over $3500 per year.
No... today's young people haven't been drafted by white haired politicians and sent overseas to die... and they haven't survived famines and droughts either... but that hardly minimizes their plight when we are making blanket statements about how easy it is for them.
The frightening thing about this entire conversation is the growing abyss between the earnings of the top 10% of people and the 'other' 90% of people. Government policies and corporate practices have successfully nurtured capitalism at the expense of the average joe. Worst part? Average joes don't even understand how they are losing this battle."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

It's brutal, and I believe there is literally no stopping it, as far as the rich getting rich and everyone else getting poorer, for all kinds of reasons. I actually have close family who are in that top 10%.... and the privileges that my niece and nephew were born into undeniably place them head and shoulders and torso above the other 90%, no doubt about it. Kids do not at all have an equal opportunity to succeed, and those who claim that they do have that or anything remotely close to it are clueless IMO.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:PJ_Soul said:

At least in a retail store there’s some expectation of due diligence so that those who shouldn’t be able to legally purchase firearms might be stopped. This? That “check,” as insignificant as it might be goes right out the window. Give it a year and you’ll see a spike in firearm shootings and deaths, particularly of former domestic partners. Unless of course the NRA and repubes in Congress are successful in further eroding firearm related statistics gathering.my2hands said:People all in a tizzy about 3D printing.... when these weapons are readily available for less than $500 all over America
