Down in Amsterdam #song request#
I know that sounds like the start of a sentence but, unfortunately for some of you, it's the start of another request. I know you've seen a lot of them but it is tour season!
I'm going to keep this short. I actually started to write it out fully and realised only a madman would bother reading the whole thing!
Just over two years ago my father was in hospital fighting for his life due to infection and cancer while my wife was rushed to another hospital 70 miles away. My wife was giving birth to our only child. I went with my wife and spent the time with her, doing whatever I could to help her bring our son into the world. My father had been unresponsive for 4 days but I ensured someone was by his bedside to let him know he was a grandparent. My wife and son remained in hospital for 3 days but on the day they were released I got a call to rush to my father's bed. Dad had been unresponsive for a week now but when he heard I was there he woke and asked for me. When I got into his room he asked how my wife and son were, I explained they were doing well and he shouldn't worry. I told him to get some rest and we'd chat later, little did I know we wouldn't get the chance. I spent the next 7 days at my dad's bedside before he passed away. My family are adamant he waited to ensure my wife and his grandchild were both safe before he passed on.
Throughout this whole experience Down was the one song I was drawn to. I listened to it time and again. It was a pillar if strength to me and for that I am extremely thankful, I'm not sure how I would have gotten through without it.
As someone from Northern Ireland with a young family I don't get many chances to see the band I love so to hear them play Down, in Amsterdam on the opening night of the tour would be something that money couldn't buy. If it happens and you see a 6ft tall guy in floods of tears give him a hug as that will be me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this,
William
