America's Gun Violence

Not if the info is not entered in a database. Just do a certificate with a seal that has to be displayed during a firearm purchase. I think it has been posted here before that a overwhelming majority of gun owners support training.mrussel1 said:
I guarantee that the same arguments used to fight gun registration would be used on training. It's just a way for the gov't to track you down and kill you first when Darth Obama seizes power.PJPOWER said:
From my perspective if would even increase the gun owner argument by allowing them to say “see, we’re well regulated, we attended the mandatory training”.HughFreakingDillon said:
I would imagine a lot of people would say having training as a mandatory requirement for ownership infringes on their right to own under 2A.PJPOWER said:
Is anyone against training? I even think the NRA would be supportive as they would most likely profit from the influx of people taking their training courses.mcgruff10 said:It is so odd to me that I could go buy any gun I want today with zero training. I wish both parties would come together and require some sort of training course upon initial purchase. Something like a hunter safety course.
Anyone against training is being a bit extreme. I would like to see all gun manufacturers include a voucher for a free (yet mandatory) training course for 1st time buyers. Training only benefits everyone.Post edited by PJPOWER on0 -
You're giving the right wing far too much credit. I can't see any scenario where they get behind it.PJPOWER said:

The chances are better than them getting behind bans...mrussel1 said:

to me regulation means on-going, subject to laws and regulations, like licensing to drive. not a single event with a certificate.PJPOWER said:
Everyone seems to have their different opinions as to what constitutes “well regulated”.HughFreakingDillon said:
training does not constitute well-regulated. by and large, depending on your local laws, you are free to do with your gun as you wish once you leave your training. well-regulated would mean laws governing how you handle and store your firearm, from purchase to disposal.PJPOWER said:

This is a Supreme Court decision...and firearms are subject to many laws and regulations already, but will never be enough for some just as there will never be too few for others.HughFreakingDillon said:

Add Freedom of the Press to the list of causes for our epidemic of gun violence. Imagine, not being able to link to a story of a good guy with a gun stopping a “responsible” gun owner until they’re not? How will you ever go on?

Glad the shooter didn’t get a chance to shoot anyone else. Fact remains he got into the place and shot people and was running away when shot. So I hope the narrative doesn’t try to become that a civilian with a gun stopped a shooting.... cause it didn’t.mrussel1 said:

What I'm trying to do is stay away from scoreboard keeping on this issue... yesterday a "good guy with a gun" wins, that's one chit for the right wing. Today, a school shooting.. a chit for the gun control side. It's pointless. Something has to be done but we should be reasonable. There won't be laws against conceal carry anytime soon, we aren't going to outlaw handguns (2A) and there won't be a mandatory gun turn in program. So long as we create this clear divide in language, no change will happen. The key to creating some reasonable gun controls that will reduce the prevalence and scale, is to win the "middle". There will be no convincing the hard right. So if we use hard left language, we alienate the middle and they throw their hands up exasperated.cincybearcat said:

The NRA is seizing the moment and promoting their company line at the moment (good guy with gun stops bad with gun). I guess we'll have to let them have their moment; however, it's a meaningless field goal at the end of a blowout (the score is now 77-3 in favour of the bad guys).

Debatable.
This was a homicidal loser who was armed, dangerous, and already tried to kill people dining. He very well may have been going home to retire his gun, goggles and ear muffs... but who's to say? And who cares? Good riddance.
To your point though... this may have been a case of an 'opportunist' seeking to engage in (as Halifax expressed) a 'wild wild west shootout'. Given the current conditions of the US... it seems to be par for the course though and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt considering the positive outcome.
