    Is there any actual evidence parents are parenting less? I thought this was the age of helicopter parenting. No one can do anything on their own and are being tracked on phones by GPS. I disappeared for hours as a kid. I think parenting is actually more intensive and intrusive now than it ever has been.
    It's a hopeless situation...

    maybe the thoughts and prayers should become before the next shooting? let's start giving thoughts and prayers to every school to prevent it (insert sarcasm emoji).  can't wait to see which responsible gun owner let this kid have access to a gun.

    edit: i shouldn't be joking about this and the response.  It's just horrible and sickening that this happens anywhere let alone in schools.

    The kids doing these things know what they are doing is wrong, they know right from wrong and they know they won't get away with it, they know they will be responsible for their actions.  They still do it. 
    Not so simple.

    I would think it's  harder to be a kid with privacy these days. I wouldnt want cell phone for that reason. I would turn the gps off and get grounded weekly.

    There isn't one good answer as to how to stop gun violence.  I wasn't really making a point about gun violence.
    I was just pointing out how it went down in Dixon Illinois 2 days ago where nobody got killed & nobody talked about it.

    Also, right on cue that you came on here to divert away from a current problem of gun violence by asking why a cop who stopped a shooter didn't run in the new cycle for days. Seems pretty easy to understand. One incident is over and done with besides delving in to the why, while the other is an on-going issue affecting thousands of lives every time it occurs.

    No, because that's something that was always around too, hell there would literally be dozens of shotguns on racks in trucks parked at my school.

    I think that shit like this just moves forward uncontrollably.  There are so many factors that contribute to violent tendancies and I just think that violent tendancies are expressed in "flavor of the day" style cycles.
    There are other violent behaviours that have decreased steadily and significantly even as shootings of this type have been on the rise.

    A law enforcement official says 10 people are dead in the Texas high school shooting; nine of those killed are students and one a teacher.

    Two law enforcement officers are among those injured, the official says.

    As to the explosive devices at the school, the official says pipe bombs and pressure cookers were found at the scene.

    Almost all of the talking heads are talking about social media, bullying, internet connectivity to other “crazy” people with similar thoughts that can motivate and support, etc. Not one talking head is discussing easy access and availability of firearms as part of the problem. Disgusting.

    If the perp got the firearms from their parents or another “responsible” firearm owner, they should be locked up for at least 10 years. How else do you teach “responsibility?”
