Holy crap.... Did I forget about the idea that the pilot killed everyone on purpose, or did I never know that's the leading theory?? Wasn't there another pilot who definitively did the same thing in the last few years?

There was an Egyptian Airlines pilot about 10 years ago that did the same thing too. I remember thinking it was so weird, huge news for several days. But when they recovered the black box and found that the pilot crashed on purpose it was like no one reported it.
If I remember correctly, I think the pilot was just flying in the jump seat or something and pulled rank to take control, then crashed it.0 -
I think the theory, from within a few days of the plane going missing, was always pilot crashed it. That is the only thing that explains the tracking being turned off and the off-schedule route. Only other explanation is hijacking I guess.0

Like sdhool shootings, I think some things are just Pandora jars, once they are open they can't be closed again.

Jeez, how does a pilot go so crazy as to do that? I grew up in an airline family. My father was an aeronautical engineer. I had an uncle that was a long-time UAL pilot. I know and have met other pilots. All the pilots I've ever met were/are very together people. This is strange.

Scary really.
One takes a massive leap of faith hopping on a plane. Pilots are very under appreciated.
I don't fly very well. My arm rests take a beating during moments of turbulence. I've flown quite a bit. I've had some bad landings. I never used to give it a moment's thought, but I medicate mysef
now.

A long time ago, I knew a pilot who committed suicide when advised that he could no longer fly due to medical reasons. However, he certainly took no one with him. Another pilot friend was in a horrible MVA and had a lengthy and painful rehab, but pushed through because of his desire to fly again. It seems that for some, the idea of losing flying is unbearable.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

now.I get it, for sure!I fly fine... a few inches off the ground. I haven't been up in an airplane at all in the last 30 years. A couple of close calls did it for me. If I ever have to fly somewhere again, I will pay a visit to my doctor first. Fix me up, Doc!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -

Never heard that first theory before, and it doesn't make any sense either. It had to be murder-suicide, either by tone of the pilots or someone who took over the plane. Incapacitated pilots dont change direction and disable the tracking devices.0 -
