This thread has taken a real Gun N Roses-esque turn with people getting on each others' cases about shit like spelling mistakes. Cool tribute guys.

I'm guessing Goldstein is not recollecting his timeline accurately and there's context missing from his recount.

I think the genesis of this story actually comes from May of 1992, not '93, when U2 brought Axl up on stage in Austria during the Zoo TV tour to do Knockin' on Heaven's Door. GnR had done the same stadium the night or two before. This would align with Goldstein saying Ten had just broke and Pearl Jam was getting huge. By 93, PJ had already wrapped up the Ten tour and working on Vs.

PJ did do some summer '93 dates, and they even opened for U2 in Europe. So, PJ had no qualms about opening for 'bigger' bands even in '93. The issue was always Axl's conduct. By early 92, Gnr was already a mess. Axl was turning up late for gigs, reprimanding his audiences and cutting off shows early. PJ didn't need to associate themselves with that. They were doing fine. If anything, the concern was the band was getting too big too quickly. So a monster tour wouldn't have been something they'd been seeking at that point. Ask Metallica how much fun they had touring with Axl in '92.

Love GNR.  Last dangerous rockband.  Love that they never gave a F.  Didnt matter to me because i never bought tickets    Nice to see them back tho.  They all got their stuff together and are taking a victory lap.

Never a big fan of GNR, so wouldn't have wanted to see them play with them.

Would never had worked, Axl was a n asshole who showed up late all the time and pretty much didn't give a shit about his fans at all.  I remember waiting two hours for the jag in 91.  Thank goodness they never had a chance to influence or contaminate Pearl Jam.

Would someone back in 1993 have believed that 25 years later all three would still be touring and filling stadiums.

    Don't know
PJ and U2, absolutely. I'm not the biggest fan of Guns N' Roses so I couldn't care less about them.

I've never managed to see U2 live, which bugs me a little bit considering I'm from Ireland and they play really big shows here every few years!

Yep. Saw them in November and it was a great show. Back in ‘93 might have been a different story.

    THEY SHOULD COVER "BETTER"!

Touring with Guns N Roses would not have been good for their brand in 1993 nor would it be now. U2 fine but GnR - no. PJ, Nirvana, etc. knocked all the pop metal bands off their pedestal (deservedly so). You don’t cowtow to the dude you knocked the fuck out.
