Because your version is not pure, it apparently comes with conditions. And your conditions to boot.unsung said:Go research the non-aggression principle.

You don't need a law for that, you just need a little respect for others.

I was so heartened to see a photo of someone very close to me in one of Saturday's marches carrying a sign that said "Books not guns" (a rather private person or I would post the photo). Kids reading more books are going to be less apt to go shoot someone. More books for kids!

The kids at the school I’m student teaching at are OBSESSED with guns. They point their fingers at each other and “shoot” all the time, even though it’s strictly against the rules. They draw them on their papers when they are supposed to be working on stuff. It’s crazy. These are six year olds. Some of them even know the names and models of different guns.brianlux said:I was so heartened to see a photo of someone very close to me in one of Saturday's marches carrying a sign that said "Books not guns" (a rather private person or I would post the photo). Never heard a single one of those kids talk about video games. Been with them for over a month now. It’s an inner city school in western PA, many of the kids I am thinking of are transplants from Philly, like literally Philly said we don’t have enough public housing for these families, send them to Johnstown. Weird that they would be affording video game consoles and such, and on top of that not mentioning them at all, just the guns that are in them.PJPOWER said:

Maybe he watched too many movies? Or played violent video games all day? Or maybe he was just another “responsible” gun owner?

I worked in an inner city school in south-central LA, probably one of if not the poorest districts in the country. Almost everyone (98%) qualifies for free lunch.
almost every kid had a smart phone better than mine and the newest video games.0

6 year olds had smart phones? I don't doubt some probably have access to video games, but I also don't think that is where it is all being learned. My kids (5 and 9) don't have access to video games and we don't watch TV, besides the few cartoons and nature specials through streaming, but they draw pictures and play guns because it is all over our culture and they have been exposed to it by other kids. I continually talk with them about guns and how while they can be used for hunting, they are dangerous and not something to pretend play or point at others. Part of me thinks there is some inherent draw for boys no matter what you do. Fucking violence and destruction is sewn in our genes.mace1229 said:

My example was high school. My point was that because it is a poor district in public housing doesn’t mean they don’t have violent video games. It seems to have been suggested they wouldn’t based on social economic status. My experience is that money plays little role in access to that stuff.
I agree with it being “sewn” into our genes too. My 3-yea-old thinks everything is a sword. Banana is a sword, a feather he found at the Park was a sword.Post edited by mace1229 on0

there's free online games everywhere. I'd say about 85% of my 8th grades know every single weapon from ww1, ww2, the cold war and vietnam because of the call of duty games. Shit I was teaching about the cold war yesterday and they all yelled out, that's nuke town from call of duty! it is real!!!RiotZact said:
