Did anyone see the cell phone video taken buy a kid in a room in the school as they all were under their desks. Hear gun shots and a haunting scream.

if you can watch that and still think nothing needs to change. If you can watch that and think that changing gun access, bullet access isn’t part of the solution, fuck you.

maybe it's my own bias, but Trump's statement rings so hollow, and Obama's speaks from the heart.
Well Trump didn't write a word of it. You can tell, 100%. Anyone who thinks he had anything to do with those words is an idiot. He doesn't talk like that. Obama I'm sure wrote his himself or at least played a big hand in writing it. It's easy to tell the difference.
of course he didn't. Not sure why the need for "anyone who thinks so is an idiot" though.
Because it's what I wanted to say. It's true, and I think it needs saying because there are millions of people who will say it was a sincere statement from him. They are idiots, and I think it's important to keep perspective of who everyone is dealing with when it comes to support of Trump.

State reps are even more afraid to oppose the NRA. They don't typically have the fund raising prowess that house members do. The NRA can easily outspend them or support their primary or general opponent so that they get crushed. Its hopeless. Nothing can be done.

Feinstein's bill would ban 205 specific “military-style assault weapons” by name, and it more broadly bans firearms containing a detachable magazine and one or more “military characteristics,” including “a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock.” Current owners would be allowed to keep their existing weapons.

Why would Paul Beholden Ryan oppose this? Why is now not the time?

Don't worry, Jeff Sessions Is all over this folks. He's forming a committee to address the lack of enforcement around gun laws and the gang infested areas these shootings happen in.

“They never get enforced,” he said. (Existing laws did not prohibit the Parkland shooter from purchasing the assault rifle apparently used in the attack.) He also added that gun crime is a major problem in “gang-infested” neighborhoods. As others quickly pointed out, Parkland was named Florida’s safest city in 2017 by a home-security trade association.

I wouldn't mind seeing the age to own a firearm raised to 25...get rid of all that high school and college angst.

That could be a problem for cops and soldiers and other people who carry firearms for their jobs. Obviously young hunters would flip out too.  Many of them are under 25. Plus, it wouldn't do anything for all the psychos older than 25. I mean, the Vegas shooter was in his 60s, and many other shooters are older than 25 too. I like the direction of your thinking, but I'm not sure such a high age restriction makes any sense. Adults have to be equal, and that includes 19 - 24 year olds.

Yeah I forgot about cops/soldiers and people who carry firearms for jobs....exempting them would be the easiest way.  But my thinking was more towards school shootings and not the psycho in vegas.

fyi allie: in new jersey I think it is 18 to own a rifle/shotgun but 21 to own a handgun.  Not sure about other states.

Yeah, it's tough. Preventing school shootings without fucking up our kids isn't an easy task. Obviously nobody wants the kids growing up in a police state, so arming the school to the teeth and making them line up for security checks every time they enter the school isn't a reasonable option (for most).... Certainly ending the sale of assault weapons would be a start, as you've mentioned already.... I dunno. I've said it before and I've said it again - the real problem is just the overall gun culture in America. And that will take generations to fix.
